SPITFIRE out NOW!!

Featured Replies

I thought it might be that Chockers - but from what I understand - perhaps an outdated concern - was that in the early sim using any other setting meant one's own ship was prone to being affected by others flying near by who were on-type?

Has that snag gone away in an update?

Can I just ask; what do we think about Flaps deployment at 140 KIAS - never flown a real Spit (surprise, surprise) but she seems to go wildly nose up - far more than anything else owned - a bit like Dick Turpin dramatically reigning in Bess as he pulls up outside the Cock And Bull pub - with the aircraft practically whinnying to boot and the KIAS cutting very, very fast?

In summary - seems a little massively over done? (excuse oxymoron)

Yeah, drop flaps on this Spitfire and it pitches up.  In reality, drop flaps on the real thing and it pitches down.

In my opinion there are lots of odd things about the flight model of this Spitfire.  It's difficult to know whether this is down to the flight model created for it by it's developers or the flight modelling limitations of the sim itself.

This is not a complaint, rather more of an observation.  It's all still very new and can only improve.

Must be a combination of the two as they seem not to play very nicely together.

The Spit is relatively new so I don't mind a bit of oddness here and there and I'm sure they're committed to sorting it out. It's so much fun to fly anyway and will only improve.

The FG-1D pitchers down with flaps.

Yes this pitching up is weird. I understand that FI is a X-Plane developer. Is its Spit'fire showing the same tendency in this simulator ?

New update released today for people who purchased through their website.   Will be out soon for buyers from the in game store.

Art

Modern Radio & Transponder unit added
Windshield scratches decreased
Cockpit control hitboxes improved, made easier to use
Pilot head basic animation
Fuel Slipper Tank added
Fixed Compass & Directional Indicator
Prop blur adjusted at low RPMs
Cockpit Camera collisions added
Various small bugfixes
User Manual updates

Systems

Custom C++ Merlin Temperature model integrated (replaces default MSFS thermodynamics system)
Fuel system overhauled + External Tank integrated
Custom oxygen system integrated
Fuel Primer functionality integrated - now required for startup (note that requirements vary with weather conditions)
Engine failures revised, overheat failures improved. The engine must now be flown inside real-world operating limits or it will very likely fail
Camera/quick-views overhauled
Door & Canopy overhauled - increased realism, includes locking mechanism. Door must be closed to operate canopy slide.
Ctrl+E Auto-start fixed

Flight Model

The flight model has been overhauled and improved, with many small corrections adding up to make for a significantly more realistic experience. As before, thanks to GotGravel for various contributions here.

Geometry corrections, wing surface areas corrected
CG locations & limits revised
Lift & Drag curves revised
Flaps pitching moment & drag corrections (nose-down tendency more realistically modelled)
Moments of Inertia revised
Roll rates & control authority adjusted
Weathervaning tendency improved
Takeoff run increased realism - more stable along roll axis, reduced P-factor torque
Braking force increased, tipping tendency reduced slightly
Engine modelling adjusted slightly, inverted flight restored

Sound

Brakes pneumatic sound added
Flap sound improved
Engine 3D Sound panning bug fixed, attenuation improved
Door, lock & canopy sounds updated

Or the other one for the same Spit. Please have a watch I think you will love it.Dominque.

I will.

First quick impression rather favorable. I've just flown the short route where I did about half a dozen of training flights this morning, Samos to Ikaria in the Aegean sea (27 nm). A less temperamental aircraft specially at take off and during the roll out. A nose down when lowering the flap. A cleaner interior.

One caveat if you have not yet installed it. The update borks your customized set of views ! I don't know whether that can be avoided though.

OK Review of the Spit with Update.

in a word WOW.

The first/release version was a let down.

Toe braking taxiing, engine start was just a ZZzzzz, flaps down and it pitched up and even in there manual it warned it would do it right =pitch down.

I could go on and on. Its nice and "easy" to use. But no Milviz FD so my hopes would be for a "true Spit" from Aeroaplane hevens close to release MK 1a

But.....now after this update....

Its a new Spit it's such a big diffrence its like its not even the same aircraft.

Taxiing is now totaly diffrent.

Engine start you now have to do right and yes it did not start as I did not prime it enough.

The sound thoughout are now fantastic. Love the braking pneumatic sounds.

Take off is now completly diffrent and landing are harder and far more realistic but harded to see over the nose.

Also they have now done the door fully and with the right sounds. You need to lock the door but now move it to let the canopy close.

Lots a other things to see and hear, love the flaps up sounds.

I could go on but frankly am going back to the sim to fly this to death. O btw its easy to pitch over on takeoff..you have been warned. The new Doc show new needed trim setting.

Here is the new door working below.

Now this Spit is truly right up there..I LOVE it.

It just shows you, these products are complex and it can take a couple of releases to fix things up.
You have to give them a few months to tidy things up, then as long as there are no show-stoppers, it is quite natural for them to move on to the next thing to continue to earn a living.

I am really looking forward to some serious down time at the Bank Holiday weekend to take this out alongside the P-40B.  From what I have seen and heard, I can't go far wrong with either of them.

Two TO and landings so far. Funny they are indeed different but I find  them easier. No  (or much less, easier to control) floating at takeoff and an easy three-point at landing. Light crosswind only though (4 knots). Taxi is a peach ... if you know from where the wind blows.

Having a set of pedals helps a lot.  Just sayin' 😉..
