April 15, 20215 yr Author Yes, cats have us well trained and we have to do things on their time. But we love it. Our four cats are pretty aloof. They seldom pay attention to each other. They don't fight with each other. I think Lions are the only members of the cat family that live in acks (prides).. They are very territorial and if a stray comes into the back yard their backs go up and they start growling and there have been fights.. Cats were sacred for the early Egyptians. We have one cat that likes to sit on the desk next to my monitor and watch me fly on the simulator. She'll paw my hand when I move the stick. They are quite affectionate. They like to sit on our laps and get petted. The one that likes to watch me fly sometimes jumps up on the back of my recliner while I'm watching television and grooms my head. Maybe she thinks I'm just a big cat. Noel The tires are worn. The shocks are shot. The steering is wobbly. But the engine still runs fine.
April 15, 20215 yr The notion of gender definitions seems to have become somewhat of an issue in the twenty-first century, in spite of the more serious ills of modern society that certainly warrant more urgent consideration. As this Forum frowns on political discourse, I will let sleeping dogs lie...

April 15, 20215 yr Stroking a cat relieves stress. So that's our reward for worship. A few years ago, there was a team of scientists at a remote Antarctic base. They took cats with them to relieve stress during the constant winter darkness. When they left, they weren't allowed top take the cats with them due to quarantine restrictions. So they had to leave them behind. (That fact makes me angry). When they returned a long time after, the cats were thriving, having a great time, living off dead penguins.

There have been numerous cats over the years taken to Antarctic bases. http://www.purr-n-fur.org.uk/famous/antarctic2.html You are right that its a concern though. In fact the international Antarctic Treaty now forbids it. Edited April 16, 20215 yr by martin-w

There have been numerous cats over the years taken to Antarctic bases. http://www.purr-n-fur.org.uk/famous/antarctic2.html Cats are a sticky topic in New Zealand as yes they are a domestic animal, but the are also New Zealand's most damaging predator. The reason for that is New Zealand doesn't have a mammal predator in it's natural species, the domestic house cat was introduced and started eating local birds, therefore became the largest predator in the nation and threatens local bird species. However in Antarctica they wouldn't be as much of a threat, if you left them out to wander they would freeze to death, therefore they would never get the chance to establish themselves as an evasive species. Nope, not true Mathew. the cats I mentioned that were abandoned at the Antarctic base were thriving. No issue with the cold. Probably wasn't pleasant for them, but cats are quite remarkable at coping with the cold. In fact there are native cats that live in the Antarctic and there is actually a feral cat population now.
April 16, 20215 yr Everything I've been able to find about cats living in Antarctica tells me three things: 1. There are not now, and never have been, cats living there. 2. Scientific expeditions have never been allowed to bring any type of animals there. 3. The climate prohibits the possibility of cats living in the outdoors there. Maybe I've just not looked at the right stuff but that's my conclusion. Here's just one of the many articles I've found on this subject: https://untamedanimals.com/are-there-cats-in-antarctica/#:~:text=There are no cats living,Antarctica's research stations as well.
