Carenado C170B or Aeroplane C140 for VFR flying?

Featured Replies

I bought the C170, it seems nice. It flies well, looks good, sounds good. But the battery went flat 5 minutes into the flight. Which apparently is an imported bug from the FSX/P3D version.

My initial impressions are it's a nice looking, pleasant to fly, simple aircraft, not as engaging to fly as the P.149 or JF Arrow, but also quite a bit cheaper.

It's as slow as a flying tractor and sounds like one too but I will certainly use it for lazy Sunday meandering. And beautifully modelled inside and out of course.

No Beta testing then? 😂

Oh, the same its in C140 of AH, but AH will release the patch in this weekend, so it will be solved very soon :).

Just picked up the C140 ... so slow and sedate - totally love it.

I was looking at the ASI thinking geez this seems to be going slow for 70 knots and then suddenly saw the MPH label .. oh, that explains it ..

It is really good to see some of these old school birds from a saner slower paced time starting to appear.

I also posted this in the other thread, my first flight in the C140 ...

Thanks for the video, Glenn. Looks good! May I ask what airport you flew out of? Looks like a nice area for some bush flying.

NZMR Murchison in the South Island of New Zealand.  In real life the nearby town is a white water rafting and hiking retreat.

I have the Orbx Mesh and NZScenery vegetation mod installed but it is still a great scenic area to fly even with the default scenery,

I just got the 170. Great little fun aircraft. Beautiful exterior, I flew into a storm and the reflections of the lightning was stunning. Sounds are very good, physics are excellent on the ground and very good in the air. For the money no regrets.

I will be happy to fly it for casual scenic flights.

BUT I might get the 140 as well as I really like the instrument panel 🙂

Yes both these planes are pure classics! It reminds me of an old school mustang or something. These slower planes are great for VFR flying!

Also what is this NZScenery vegetation mod you speak of? Could you please share a link?

Payware though relatively cheapish.

The mod actually includes vegetation and water folders however the water part is somewhat broken with the most recent update (I disabled the water as it caused stutters and load failures).

Personally I find the vegetation part of the mod worth the few dollars it costs even without the water enabled - though as always some people claim they see no difference.

For what it is worth - before and after videos at Rotorua below.   The difference I see is a lot less out-of-character pine trees and the trees are more variable in height and shorter overall. For me it is particularly noticeable in the residential subdivision immediately behind the airfield  (for example 2:06  in first video versus 1:40 in the second) .  However as I said above, some people claim to see minimal or no difference at all so it really varies from person to person.

Thanks for pointing that out! Appreciate it greatly!

I like the classic style of the C-140, I will probably buy it if they sort out the sound issues.
