Stream Deck - This is great

Featured Replies

Yes, And thanks for your profile work! I would like to see more activity in this area on these forums. We can't all convert our PCs into aircraft cockpits, and these compact devices allow for a surprising increase in function and ease-of-use, while taking up a very small area of desktop real estate. The tactility of these devices is also very satisfying.

Also for those who find all the Stream decks a little pricey there is "Touch Portal" for IOS & Android. I use it on a iPad Pro & Huawei MediaPad and it works flawlessly. I looked at a Stream Deck last year but couldn't justify the price for the XL version.

Below is a link to a post I made last Nov for anyone interested

Can the buttons be moved around/rearranged on a tablet?

Yes.   You can rearrange the buttons,   create menus, submenus,   use custom images for the buttons,   make momentary buttons,  toggles,  macros, etc.     You can start apps,  control smart devices,  etc.

I have spent many hours learning how to set up MSFS on the Stream Deck XL and the Behringer XTouch Mini MIDI panel (for it's rotary knobs). Learning to program these devices and creating layouts for various functions and aircraft types can become a hobby in itself. Many Stream Deck functions use assignments from the keyboard profile in MSFS, and others are run through Lorby's Axis and Oh's software. In many cases scripting is required. Some templates and scripts can be found online. Not all sim functions can be set up on these devices, as there is often no script in the SDK that can be used.  Some controls used on the glass panels for instance, can only be used with the mouse and cursor. There are no scripts that allow their functions to be transferred onto other hardware. This can be very disappointing and frustrating, as you're still stuck with the mouse, especially for some of the fiddly multi-function knobs. This is all a work-in-progress, as MSFS evolves and adds and alters functions and controls. But even in it's current state, MSFS can be made much easier to use through these devices. Lots of good info on the Tube.

Before I stopped playing the Sim earlier this year, I had a fully functional set of buttons mapped to the main Garmin G1000 knobs and buttons using this...

https://flightsim.to/file/3178/flight-tracker-streamdeck-plugin

It leverages the MobiFlight WASM Module Integration to implement a lot of functions that are otherwise missing.

Just had a session creating buttons for the interior lighting in the C172 (as a generic standard template for the single engine models). Was VERY disappointed to find out that almost none of the interior lights have key bindings or scripts that can be used on external devices. Most can only be used with the mouse, and have no default keyboard bindings at all. Scripts won't help here as the SDK provides no means to speak to these controls as of yet. This is a typical experience for those who choose to go this route. So be ready for it.

Ah thats not good I just checked Flightdeck payware profiles and only seeing panel or int light buttons -

The aircraft lights air frame lights are present such as strobe - beacon landing etc. but not individual panel lights

Guess well have to wait for more sdk support - thanks for heads up - unit is suppose to be here this Thursday still be nice to have - plenty of other switches operable

Just an update with Flightdeck software takes all the pain away from having to set up buttons - what a difference in fun factor now - no more fiddling around - one of the best additions to simming I ever bought

Highly recommend a Stream Deck and Flightdeck payware plugin - Developer updated program few days ago and now supports all of these aircraft - new future profiles are ongoing for no extra charge - crazy for the price

Yes works with FBW A320 also 🙂 would work with other aircraft also just more work for you to do - you would have to setup key bindings which is no big deal

Glad you are enjoying your Stream Deck Rich. I also am incredibly happy with the purchase of mine.

From the DC6, CRJ and even down to the C172 it makes controlling different aspects of the aircraft so much easier.

I just received my StreamDeck XL today and will begin setting it up tonight after work. With all of the different options out there, I'm confused about what way to go first:

Option 1: Purchase FlightDeck and mess around with their pre-configured profiles.

Option 2: Purchase Axis and Oohs and set up the StreamDeck to use the various profiles created by @guenseli  and perhaps also set up the Flight Tracker plugin to create my own profiles later

For what it's worth, I mainly fly the TBM930 so option 2 seems like the better starting point but I'm coming at this from a place of ignorance at the moment so I'd appreciate the collective wisdom of the posters here for advice.

Next up,   tactile feedback.  😎

Bolt one Aura Pro under each of your butt cheeks,  wire them to a 2 channel 150watt amp,  and then add SimShaker for Aviators.

SSA utilizes a telemetry stream output from fs2020,  to translate the appropriate physics into tactile feedback.    Things like engine vibes,  runway bumps,  turbulence / buffeting.  It's just another brick in the reality wall.  I love it.

I went with this combo from parts express,  but an old 2 channel stereo head unit or home theater amp would work too.

"SimShaker for Aviators",  https://simshaker.com/software/general/

I feel like Vader,  tempting Luke.  😁

/SSA supports up to six shakers.   I've thought about adding two more down near my rudder pedals.    The two I have now already shake my seat,  stick,  and hotas.
