2 other visual downgrades I noticed

Featured Replies

Aside the pop-ins when panning, which in my view are mild enough that they are worth the FPS increase, there are 2 other downgrades I have more issues with: water waves are now static from a distance, till you fly directly over water, at least that is how it is with water waves set at medium. Second, autogen detail is limited till you get within a few hundred feet distance from it and you see the transition to higher detail as you approach, with my current settings. This was not like that before and together with the less nice looking clouds, find it more of an immersion killer than the pop-ins.

Very true and the clouds look terrible from a distance

I agree on clouds. I have them on Ultra but I'd say they look more like Medium.

I also noticed a few things here and there. For example in default TBM the flap lever was nicely animated before (when you moved it) no it just jumps instantly. I mean, it's not a big deal but what bothers me a little is the fact they categorically denied over and over that there would be any visual downgrades.

I've noticed implementation of LODs for their own models is much more aggressive. This wouldn't be a problem at all but for the fact they haven't made the lower versions of the models look the same.

When you get within 5 metres you get major colour changes and for things with any type of detail such as the indent on a road barrier they basically don't exist until the closest LOD so you get jarring shape changes too.

Panning around now isn't so much a pop in fest, but it is a ripple of twitching models and changing colours.

Low Res VC in the DC6 is my biggest gripe, and PMDG has contacted Asobo for a solution and has heard nothing.

The autogen is really blurry for me now, going to mess with the graphics settings. Once crisp graphics now looks like someone de-focused my screen.

That only happens if you turn off the sharpen in the cfg file

I'm afraid, they do not care about PC users, right now

Hopefully I'm wrong.

The equation is pretty simple: Performance up = Visuals down. It has always been like this. The main difference is now, that you cannot really adjust it via sliders according to your preferences and/or your hardware capabilities.

I can set my settings to med and have my sim looking better than xp and p3d fully built up and hitting 70+fps. I can live with that. I dont need to see every blade of grass or every fluff of cloud. Everything we have in this sim is better than what we had in previous sims, so I can definately live with the performance to visual ratio

I did not compare it with P3D or XP. Neither do I want do see leaves and grass in detail. You may try to read my comment again ...

Well I can because I've had both off those sims and I think msfs is the modern sim we've all been waitng for. To see how far we've come ...

Off course, MSFS is the future and I'm very thankful that we have it. I only wish that MS/Asobo would give us more freedom according visual quality and performance. But it seems that it goes the other direction.
