It was like this:

Day 1 - 1st Hour

Day 1 - 4th Hour

For every negative post there were 2-3 positive posts trying to counter

Day 2-3

For every negative post there were 5-10 posts agreeing, and 1-2 positive posts trying to counter

I know.

It is funny, but I have found myself flying the sim more and reading the forum less and posting less in those proportions.

Why?

Because for some strange reason U5 made my experience different but better, so I am enjoying the sim more and this forum less.

I sympathize with users that see unsurmountable problems. I had some as well, but with a bit of work, not unlike what happened a few times before with updates of this sim and others I have FS2020 running great. Thanks to the devs that came out with quick updates.

I also really like the new effects and the float planes.

So I have been taking a break from this forum and I am flying and tweaking FS2020 more than I have for a while.

I am sure things will calm down on the Forums as well soon.

I hope everyone can figure out whatever problems and get back to flying again.

All the best. I will check back here in a few days or a week or so.

Many of us agree with you, there are the "defenders" that will jump in any second and try to tell you why you are wrong...

Hold out for the next patch is my suggestion, not sure when that will be, they have a lot of work on their plate.

You got that right. If you see something that isn't right and post it , you will soon get shot down.

I had taken a 3 month break from it, came back about 2 hours before the patch. Opened a dev project, it forced me to update, and yada yada. I have stressed discomfort and annoyance at some past patches, but never really felt like they were an abhorrent abomination like this last patch.

It's really a sad state that we are still putting up with such ineptitude. It's been a year and the sim has regressed from its initial release. I've been supporting MSFS, but I've lost my patience. With this latest update they managed to now ruin the clouds. How much more are customers willing to take? Maybe most have not experienced enough pain yet.

A pilot is always learning and I LOVE to learn.

whats up with the colors?

I admit to sometimes being that guy, but in most cases the urge to cry out settled within a few hours. But not this time, not with those colors!

Here's an overexposed purple hell (unaltered screenshot, only converted to jpeg) that was a gorgeous approach into ENCN before.

again , such a onesided view, there are also customers that have had no issues with this update and enjoying it very much.

for some, the update was horrible seemingly, for others its heaven.

What I think you forget sometimes is that none of us are right and none of us are wrong, in this matter.   We're all just expressing opinions, intermixed with generous doses of hyperbole and vitriole.. 😁

You're very confident in your viewpoints in these threads, and confidence is good. You're all over every thread here and I can honestly say I've enjoyed most of your contributions to them.

But let's not pretend that you are intrinsically right in your outlook of this update, and that others are wrong, misguided, mis-informed, lying, etc, etc.

I actually haven't even posted before the other day in a few months i believe, I don't post as often as SOME others I just have limited time and have to keep my forum time narrow to certain times when I have free time, which happens to be right now.

I'm not sure how to respond to this to be honest, because it's more political than it is reality, and I don't do politics, sorry...

I don't trust FOX or CNN, if that helps... I get my news from Youtube, generally Russell Brand, not a fan of politics / media or fake news...

Please be assured, it wasn't a snipe - I meant it when I said I enjoyed your contributions; you clearly have a lot of technical knowledge about the sim and I've genuinely learned things from that.   My comment about you posting a lot, was just light-hearted observation / tongue-in-cheek.   I was just pointing out that like most things in life, we all (inc. me) get entrenched in our viewpoint, and believe we're right.

Apologies for any offence I caused, Alpine 👍

PS... I really enjoy RB's channel on YouTube too!

...who usally whines, but my just over six month new computer that otherwise had handled MFSF perfect with only one CTD under it's belt so far, forced me to do a complete reinstallation (unwillingly of course) of Windows and MFSF and thas beacause of how @rsobos excellent SU5 update stubbornly refused my computer to even start MSFS. So even after endless efforts to repair MSFS, Microsoft Store, the registry etc I'had to give in and reinstall the whole computer.......So finely I'm placed behind my yoke and managed to do a take of and noticed that the abillity to finetone the trim inte the 172 with the Honecomb trimwheel has vanished...and whats up with the colors? I got it to be somewhat better with HDR on but just by a smidge and Stockholm and Helsinki looks like a post zombie apocalypse world?...What The French!! Upgrade my @rse, I'ts so far a dowgrade. Sure I got ca 70 fps, but I was completly satisfied with 50. Greatings from a grumpy old man!

My First take off in the 172 post SU5 was like a Russian Mig doing a Cobra Manoeuvre 😀  The trim wheel on my Honeycomb throttle developed superpowers 🤣

I'm among those who still fly happily most of the time, but I wouldn't dare to tell others there are no problems with SU5. There are plenty of issues, and I'm sure their backlog has grown a lot in the past month. Seems like they

Luckily I get very few CTDs, the only that can be reproduced is when loading a flight with the FBW A32nx - about 30% of my attempts I get a crash while loading, but on the next try it loads without a hitch. I can live with this one for now, assuming it gets fixed soon. Other than that, only 2 random CTDs in about 15h of flying with SU5 and the hotfix. All my flights were 1h max, so I didn't lose much progress - I would've been a lot angrier had it been a 5h flight. So I might just have gotten lucky, but I don't deny that there are a lot CTDs for some other users, making the sim unusable for now.

One thing I really hate about SU5 is the whiteout.  I'm still kind of ok with how the colours look when viewing from outside the plane, although I'd prefer it a tad darker. But when viewing the landscape from inside the aircraft with >50% of the screen taken up with the cockpit, the landscape looks a lot too bright with very little contrast. To me it seems difficult to find a view that shows all the main instruments without getting a whiteout. This is particularly bad when landing, and there's no way to see the markings on the runway.

I don't care if the community discussing the issues and problems they have - that's good and useful. What I do mind though is when everyone jumps to conclusions - this happens on both sides:

- "I knew it! They're dumbing it down, it's only a game!"

- "I'm flying without a problem! If you have problems with the sim, it's your fault!"

- "The beta testers didn't look for bugs, they just wanted to play"

... none of which is true. Would they hire Working Title if they just cared about having an Xbox flying game? Would they really keep telling us they're thinking of beyond-ultra sliders to improve the visuals in every dev Q&A if they wanted to dumb down the graphics? I agree, this has to be addressed, and maybe it takes some nudging and pushing to convince Jörg and Seb, but I'm sure we'll see better quality than Ultra (as of Aug 2020) in the near future, if you have the hardware to run these settings.

To be honest, I'm not surprised we're seeing so many issues. As far as I see it, it has been the most abitious sim update so far, with the Xbox branch forked in Dec 2020 or even earlier. While this isn't a problem in itself, it increases the risk of introducing subtle bugs that only come to light when everything is merged together in the end. It was very apparent they were running out of time before the Xbox deadline - they announced a first performance test "flighting event" for Steam users in May which was cancelled because they weren't ready yet (Jayne mentioned it somewhere in the official forums). If you read between the lines, the first beta build from early June still wasn't ready, not even for beta testing.

I really hope that after the Xbox version was released they finally have the time to work through the backlog of issues. My guess is that a lot of people who worked exclusively on porting MSFS to Xbox now have some free capacities, and that the whole project will be a bit easier to organise now that the two main branches have been merged.

Edit: Oh, and I think MS is aware of the immense value MSFS can provide to the image of the company as a whole. It's their longest-running software series, and it's seen as something positive by most people (albeit a bit slow-paced for many of them). However, for this to work out, it has to be stable - and have the support of real-world pilots that vouch for its quality and realism.

Others have commented perhaps they should be asking MSFS questions in their local grocery store - can anyone here recommend a good tomato variety for my next salad?

I guess each community has the ultimate defenders that will go mad or super sarcastic when someone complain about issues he got, simply because they don't experience them.

In PC's there are so many variables that can make an extreme different experience from one another. That's why consoles are easier to support.

I don't think you need to excuse yourself for bringing up your issues. Its not whinning. If some of the defenders doesn't like it he can ignore the post (if he mentally can...).

Completely agree with you.

I am hearing now that Asobo have found that the temperature at height bug has regressed again, and they don't know how.  Can this possibly be true?

The temperature at height bug is (and always has been) a Live Weather server issue and not a bug in SU5 itself. It started 6 full days before SU5 was even released. Although nobody has officially confirmed it, I believe they finally found the problem, as the temperatures aloft seem to now be working for most users for the past several hours.

I don’t know if Asobo themselves have any direct control over the Live Weather servers - I believe that is handled by Microsoft/Azure. Apparently the developers themselves did not at first understand that this was an external server problem and not a bug in the SU5 code.

I am not "defending" anything or critiquing anyone's comments, be they complaints or praise for MSFS or the SU5 update. I just want to say that I simply am not seeing the degradation of quality that some are seeing. I just took a flight from KLGA past the southern tip of Manhattan and the Verrazano Narrows bridge, then up the Hudson to the George Washington Bridge (I have the NY bridge addon installed), with side trips over to the heart of the city to have a close look at buildings, cars, trees, etc. Everything looked as sharp and clear as before, but with significantly improved performance (56-60 FPS with the limit set at 60). My graphics settings are on Ultra, objects level of detail and terrain level of detail both at 200. To me this sim is incredibly good, far better than anything I ever have experienced before. Again, I accept that this is not true for many others, and hope that all the problems can be sorted out. I am just  reporting what I see.
