I just wanted to point out that the terrain shadows not rendering at the edge of the screen was not introduced by SU5. I already noticed it some time ago (I think sometime after SU3 or SU4). It's quite prominent when you're using TrackIR. Of course, that doesn't make it any better.

Maybe I’m blind or stupid, but even if correct, I don’t obsess on this minutia. I flew last night and it was amazing. I’m not looking out of the cockpit looking at the view and thinking “man…this was 5% better before the update.” In fact, I was able to go all the way to “ultra” presets and INCREASE the overall quality. As said, the sim now is so much better (to me in my opinion) than flying around with generic scenery or flat photo scenery in P3D or FSX.

If you set your preset something else and then back, it fixes a lot of the rendering issues people mention. It certainly does not fix the LOD issues, scenery pop-in issues and (worst of all imho) the aliasing issues. The TAA option worked magically up to SU4 but now seems to have little effect. UI menu screens, buildings, trees and other scenery objects now shimmer from terrible AA. I am not sure if that issue is as bad in 2D, as I only fly in VR.

But I don't think you can dismiss the possibility that some of these limitations/bugs are 100% intentional and by design - so will likely never get fixed.
