Sky Looks Real Now

Featured Replies

I'm looking at the natural beautiful sky while flying a bush trip.  Sorry folks MSFS is the real thing when it comes to rendering the summer sky.

Agree!  Its been a couple of days with the weather being a little messy but today everything was spot on again. Flight from kbjc to kdal was, once again, smooth, steady frames and great visuals.  Landed at Dallas Love with no stutters which was never possible before the update.

Thanks.

No such joy at HD resolution and high end on my freshly reinstalled MSFS. Midtones still too light and need to be corrected by resetting gamma. Although my old school monitors are modest, I do have them calibrated for photography, and their luminance has been set using a colorimeter device (Spyder 5 Express). This problem is not a big deal, but definitely new in SU 5.

The good news is that the fresh install doesn't CTD on a regular basis.

I cranked my gamma down to 80 in the nVidia CP.

OK, now show us a screencap from INSIDE the cockpit WITH the instrument panel panned up on the display so you can see the instruments.  Is it still "not overly bright" outside?  Is the instrument panel so dark you can hardly see it anymore if your outside view ISN'T washed out because of the gamma 80 setting?

And if you have to adjust your gamma to 80 from OUTSIDE the sim itself using MORE than just your monitor's native settings, how on earth can you imply MSFS is the "real thing" all by itself?  That violates every principle of logical "Cause and Effect" reasoning.  It's like all the people who said they got their P3D's looking good, but ONLY after invoking third-party shader addons (that worked differently for different people).

I'm happy for you that you're happy with what you had to do to be happy.  But the conclusion you draw about the current state of the sim doesn't revolve around your own computer and how you decided to "fix" it.

Just sayin'

I try gamma 0.8 and my cockpit got to dark and very unrealistic, it did not work on my monitor, HDR works best for me, but it is still as if there is a thin film of haze all over the picture.

After some tuning, I'm really liking the new glare / bloom. More like a real, blinding summer's day!

Did you perform any other cleanup after using Windows uninstall to remove MSFS in prep for your fresh install?  Remnant folders/files? Registry entries?  Etc.?

I have cleaned out what was low hanging fruit but unsure I found all.  Interestingly enough, CCleaner Pro did not find any stray registry issues when run after the uninstall and a reboot.  But three days later it identified four or five registry entries to clean up.  Go figure!  I am currently uninstalled and on the sidelines until at least one more hotfix they appear to be working on.  I wish to have a truly fresh install when the time comes.

The gamma in the program is incorrect, so if you have a calibrated monitor, it won't look good.

Except that these same effects carries over to other seasons such as autumn, winter, and spring as well. This reminds of of X-Plane and all the terrible exaggeration of hazy skies everywhere.
