August 19, 20214 yr Yep, just got it, good job DC Designs, flies well, FPS good, looks good, now need the boat.
August 19, 20214 yr Excellent! I'm waiting for the reviews though. Nothing but 'best of breed' aircraft add-ons this time around. I think the tendency for me was to grab at everything that was released in the early days. With the accelerating release schedule for third party aircraft, I think I can start to be a bit selective now (and probably need to be financially also). I am waiting on the Aerosoft Twin Otter, the Quest Kodiak, and maybe I will buy this Tomcat or their F-15 so I have something to play with that is fast and high altitude, but other than that, I need to reign it in a bit. I have so many aircraft I have bought and only spent an hour or two in, so I could do with working backwards for a bit and getting the value out of them. So the F-15 has been updated well, but this has the swing wings etc., and I also did the plastic model Airfix kit of the wolfpack one which I loved when I was a kid - so, selection problem! August 19, 20214 yr Review up later today from me, they've certainly got the engine sounds right on this DCD F-14 incidentally and it's good fun launching it off a carrier, so... In the meantime, might wanna check out this as an accessory for it, which I did a review of specifically for stuff like this F-14, since it is currently 30 percent off at Just Flight: Edited August 19, 20214 yr by Chock Alan Bradbury Check out my youtube flight sim videos: Here
August 19, 20214 yr Well one thing to take into account is how about if you don't have DCS installed, or don't want to? Although I don't know why actually, as the base sim is free isn't it? How does DCS run at 4k with something like a 3080? I might consider putting it back on. It's been a while. Rob (but call me Bob or Rob, I don't mind). That's courtesy of the really powerful radar and very long-ranged weaponry, which made the notion of going up against a US carrier group's interceptor screen a fairly suicidal proposition which would be pretty-much guaranteed to fail. As a result, most of the F-14s adversaries have bugged out the moment they got lit up by its radar, giving it few opportunities to close on an enemy, which means the total air-to-air victory tally for the US Navy's F-14s, throughout their service, is two Su22s, two MiG23s and a Mil-8 helicopter, and that's it. So that's five victories in total over a 34-year period, which started in the Vietnam War and finished in 2006. On the plus side too of course, if I recall correctly, there was just one single combat loss of a US Navy F-14A, and that was during the '91 Gulf War, where an Iraqi SA2 shot one down; both crewmembers ejecting and being picked up by a RESCAP chopper. It's a different story for Iran's F-14s, which are known to have shot down at least 60 Iraqi combat aircraft for very few combat losses. The Iranians have claimed it is more than twice that number of victories for their F-14s, and it may well be, but only about 60 have actually been independently confirmed for sure. They did have the literal 'Top Gun' F-14 pilot though - Brigadier General Jalil Zandi - who managed eleven victories in an F-14, eight of which are absolutely confirmed, with the other three being 'probables'. Iranian F-14s were still flying missions over Syria in 2016 and as far as I'm aware, a few of them are still operational to this day. Whilst I'm a definite fan of DCS and particularly the MiG-29 and A-10 in it, if you could get an Iranian F-14 campaign, that would probably make it a bit more fun to fly the F-14 in DCS, because getting into combat with a ton of different Iraqi combat aeroplanes would be an entirely realistic scenario. What MSFS offers with combat aeroplanes, is the ability to fly anywhere you like with them, do airshow routines and such, and of course you can still do air to air combat with them in multiplayer, and so long as you have a referee and can say 'fox-1', 'rifle' etc, then you can definitely simulate what is pretty much a combat pilot's real-life regular routine most of the time. So I think combat aeroplanes do have their place in MSFS, but I do agree, if you want to actually use them to their full capability, DCS is the way to go. August 19, 20214 yr For some reason, I am just not into fighters in FS20. I own the spit and don't even fly it. Now military cargo planes like the C-47, C-130, or C-5 Galaxy, yes please. Grumman Duck? PBY Catalina? Yes. But when I want to hop into a fighter I do it in War Thunder, where I have a hangar full of aircraft from several nations. I prefer Ground Realistic Battles, where you start off with your armored vehicles and then when you have enough spawn points you have the option of spawning in your aircraft to fly cas or cap. I've said it before, but War Thunder has a Russian PE-8 bomber from WWII, that can deploy a 5 ton bomb. Kill radius the size of an NFL football field. Feels dirty, but too fun. Then again, it's equally fun shooting PE-8's down before they can drop one. So in short, one C-130J please.
August 19, 20214 yr Eh? I'd be more interested in trying to fly a Concorde at MACH 2 from EGLL to KJFK in MSFS instead of this F14, I really see no point of this unless you are formation flying with your friends. Probably good for DCS as I don't find that all that interesting either If I want to shoot at something I will just play COD or something like that. Edited August 19, 20214 yr by jbdbow1970
August 19, 20214 yr I just have the need for speed. But I'll wait for the Top Gun update coming out in November, since (hopefully) that will include better supersonic physics and proper hard top ships/carrier. Edited August 19, 20214 yr by Tuskin38

I must admit you have tweaked my interest in DCS again now. I have plenty of space so I might start it downloading. Steam version alright? I thought my old Track IR was finished but it looks like maybe just a loose wire hopefully. Anyway, to stay on topic, I am still looking forward to Chocks review later. He could open on guitar to Danger Zone by Kenny Loggins on this one! Rob, I dont think you need to up your spec now. Your CPU is great and 5.1 is faster then mine your RAM is also faster I dont see anything you need to update now. Enjoy mate, good for you. Invest in some great controls is what I would surgest and you would use them with every flight no matter what aircraft you fly. David Murden.
