Stream Deck with MSFS

The last time I flew a real aircraft I could have sworn it had buttons to push. My Stream Deck buttons do exactly the same as they did. I can't see how that can have anything other than a positive impact on immersion.

Exactly!

Thank you all for the great insight! To be honest, I had already decided to get a Stream Deck. I'm a programmer who likes automation and also want to tinker with home automation and IFTTT with the SD.

I'm not as experienced a simmer as the rest of you and haven't gotten into external hardware that much yet. I think I'll put the SD to limited use as I learn new planes and then start upping its usage as I get more knowledgeable.

Thanks!

I am not a streamer but find it incredibly useful for automating all kinds of routine processes for work, for other programs such as photoshop as well as for MSFS and a few games. I only have the six button version which is enough for everything with a few subfolders.

For me, the 32er StreamDeck is also high on my wishlist. Only for MSFS and DCS.

I use the 15 button version along with the free flight tracker plug-in from Flightsim.to and it’s a wicked combination. The on button feedback is great when monitoring and changing settings and values is a simple button push away.

I love having dedicated shortcuts and really enjoy my Stream Deck 32. I also made some profiles uploaded to flightsim.to. They use AAO and the free Flight Tracker plugin. I could not be happier. Especially things like frequencies or also less used functions, or even a full GNS command set fit. I would not play without it and it takes more of my experience away if I have to fiddle around with my mouse in the cockpit. At least for me after a while a disconnect sets in that makes you not think about the button you push on the SD when you look at its counterpart in the cockpit.

That being said, I have been on vacation but received a couple of mails via flightsim.to that some of my profiles are broken and before I left I noticed that as well. There seems to be stuff that happened to variables and events that killed of some of the solutions from adobos side. I'd still get a new Stream Deck in a heartbeat. That and the X-Touch Mini from Behringer really have made the sim a new experience for me.

Hmm rotating knobs such as VS - Heading - ALT etc. work fine but I'm using Streamdeck payware

I absolutely love my StreamDeck XL. The best part is being able have direct access to all buttons on the GNS530, GNS430, and the G1000 (haven't flown with the G3000 yet). When I fly the CJ4, I love being able to control the FMC through it as well.

Every real AC has it's own panel layout, and part of adapting to any AC is learning where those controls are, and becoming familiar enough with them so that reaching for them in the heat of the moment is intuitive. In a sim it's no different. a 32 button Stream Deck and an Xtouch mini are just collections of buttons (controls), and to operate them efficiently requires memorizing where those controls are - and believe me...that can become very challenging! You're just doing actions with a satisfying twist of a real knob, or click of an actual button, instead of trying to point a tiny mouse cursor at a frustratingly small area on a screen. There's nothing very real about that at all. Isn't it more satisfying to move a "real" throttle control on a physical panel, than to punch a key on your keyboard? Every peripheral we use makes a sim feel a little less like a sim, because it translates visual actions to a physical ones.

I want one!  Steam Deck.  Looking at Amazon at the 32 button going for $245.  It's a bit much but it looks nice and it is just what I'm looking for.  Still thinking about it though but I'll probably end up buying one!..lol😜

The only situation I can think of where using these types of peripherals might not be appropriate would be if say, you were taking lessons in a typical Cessna, and you wanted to use the sim to practice procedures and aircraft familiarizations. There you would want to look for and actuate controls in their respective positions in the cockpit. Otherwise, it’s more about just knowing what function needs to be implemented at the appropriate time in the sim, and taking that action, no matter what device or method you are using to accomplish it.

Just to add:

I have also a VRInsight MCP Combo II (Boeing) (which is controlled by AAO also). This is also sth I do not want to miss as it is valueable for all AP controls and their rotary knobs. A simpler and cheaper variant would possibly be a Behringer x-Touch Mini MIDI controller (works with AAO).

AP controls (especially the rotary knobs) with StreamDeck are not very good, but everything else.

I have a Streamdeck XL, and I've downloaded Axis and Ohs, but still cant get it to work with MSFS.

Any tips?

How is that realized? Do you load another Profile on your StreamDeck for every aircraft you fly?

Yes, head over to the official support forum or use the contact form on the AAO website to get support from the developer
