Pleasant surprise, then disappointment

Featured Replies

Had an interesting thing happen in the sim today. Wanting to fly the DC Designs F-14, I chose Oceana NAS in Virginia as my departure. Zooming in to find a ramp parking space, I saw a little plane icon on a space and decided to chose a parking spot close by. When I hit fly and the aircraft loaded, I turned my head to see another F-14 several parking spots over. As I was going through the before start checklist, the plane disappeared for about a minute then reappeared. I have never had this happen before. Someone else wanted an appropriate setting to try out the F-14. I was hoping that I would have someone to fly with but it was not to be.  He/she disappeared a couple of minutes later. I had a nice flight around the Chesapeake Bay area anyway. I love this game.

It is not uncommon for the sim to park the same airplane you are flying, on the tarmac on a parking spot nearby.

It will mimic your animations.. if you turn off the engine, it will turn off as well, etc

Just one of those things.

No Bert It had a persons name on the little icon. It wasn't AI.

it's possible they had just parked too.

Would be great to filter players based on the aircraft they were flying…

I often wonder this as well. If I have an addon aircraft like the CRJ and someone else is flying the CRJ, will I seen the CRJ or will I see a generic plane? I don't think I have ever seen an addon aircraft other than my own in the sim nor do I think I have ever seen the likes of a default cessna or many of the other default GA aircraft actually being flown by others.

It depends on the options you have ticked in your sim. With the right ones to allow complex models and such to display, you will see another CRJ or whatever alongside yours.

What will most likely not ever happen (largely for legal reasons), is when someone is in the sim is in an aeroplane which they own, but you do not, you won't see that one in multiplayer, since obviously, you won't have that model installed on your sim.

In multiplayer, nothing actually travels across the internet apart from a signal telling the other simulator(s) to display the aircraft that you are flying.
Only if they have that exact aircraft and repaint installed, will they then see exactly what the other player is flying.

The point was to share a a pleasant experience that I enjoyed, albeit short lived. Emphasis on pleasant.  I have read so much negativity I thought I would buck the trend. Thank you.
