Updating my sims hardware peripherals - Logitech radio panel

Featured Replies

Well after 15 years with my current hardware I though it was time to update my sim peripherals, I was using the ch yoke and saitek throttles but they have seen better days (half the buttons don’t works anymore etc), so I’m diving in And updating.

Ive got myself an alpha and bravo last week, and think lll finish it off with a radio panel and a track ir unit.

Question being, before spending 200$ on the Logitech (saitek) radio panel, does it work pretty flawlessly with msfs or is there a lot of tweaking that needs to happen in order for the panel to communicate with msfs?

Thanks

Once you install the Logitech plugin for FS2020 it should just work with no further configuration necessary.   At least in all the default aircraft,  or any compliant 3rd party aircraft.

In the mean time you might consider trying one of the tablet apps.

I have the Logitech switch panel and autopilot panel,   but I use FSradioPanel with an android tablet for my radios.  https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tambucho.fsradiopanel.trial&hl=en_US&gl=US

Good luck,  at any rate.

I love my radio panel.  A fantastic addition for vatsim flying

Hmmm, that tablet setup may be a better option as I was planning on adding a tablet for chart viewing.  How do you tune the radios being as how it’s a rotary dial in the radio….Are the click spots far enough apart to not cause issues?

Here's a couple Vader's vids on Logitech.Saitec radio panel. Spand.Next is cheap, plug and play. I did not even DL the Logitech drivers, only used Spad!

5800X3D, RTX4070, 600 Watt, one or two 1440p 32" screens, 64 GB RAM, 4 TB  PCle 3 NVMe, Warthog throttle, VKB NXT EVO stick, Honeycomb Alpha yoke, CH quad, 3 Logitech panels, 2 StreamDecks, Desktop Aviator Trim Panel. Crystal Light VR.

I have a lately made Logitech version panel and have no problems with the knob stability. EDIT: just purchased less than a week ago from Amazon .

I  meant to type I have lately purchased Logitech version panel, and have no problems with display tuning knobs.

And now I see somebody else also finds the latest editions have very  good tuning knobs, compared to how they used to be when they sere Saitec.

Does your radio panel work with the A32NX?

I have a radio panel & multi panel that work with all the default aircraft using the logitech driver but they will not work with the A32NX from a cold & dark state. Weirdly if you start from a runway with everything running they work.

I used Spad many years ago but never Spad Next

I use spad next with my panel and it works as expected.

MSFS Alpha tester on W10 Pro x64. Hardware: AMD 5900X 12 core CPU. Cooler Master ML360R AIO, Asus X570-E mobo, Asus Strix 3090 24GB gfx card, G.Skill TridentZ 64GB (4x16) DDR4-3600 RAM, Samsung 970 250GB SSD (OS), Samsung 980 Pro 1TB M.2 pcie-4 NVMe SSD (MSFS install). EVGA 850w Gold cert PSU, CUK Continuum full ATX tower.  43" Sceptre 4K display. VR: HP Reverb G2.

To replicate Saitek's BIP (backlit information panel),  I use my S20 phone to display two instance of this virtual FIP with spad.next,   https://fipgauges.com/product_info.php?cPath=44&products_id=159

They also have a virtual Saitek radio stack,  https://fipgauges.com/product_info.php?cPath=44&products_id=83

And the virtual Saitek AP panel,  https://fipgauges.com/product_info.php?cPath=44&products_id=120

To display them I use the Spacedesk android client app on my phone,  and the spacedesk sever app on my pc.   Then it's just a matter of dragging the virtual FIP's to the phone and sizing them how you want.    Works with tablets too.

They have many gauges,  including the default Saitek FIP gauges too.

I bought SPAD after SU5 as I found the update introduced issues in that the  Logitech plug-in does not shut down on closing the sim and no longer works if you restart the sim without rebooting the PC. The SPAD is expensive though imo. £20 for one year.

SPAD, on the other hand, has to be started manually although theres maybe a setting I've missed.

Is SpadNext a subscription?

I didn't see anywhere you have to pay more than once. 24.99 Euro's ($35 CDN) for the version that will work with MSFS 2020. I was considering giving it a go but not so sure if it is a subscription.

I thought I saw that it was a licence for one year but I may be mistaken? It may have been free updates for one year or something similar.

You Buy it and you have it for Life ... however if you want to get continued updates/upgrades after the first year then yes you can pay for a yearly update license or pay about 3 years worth and get a lifetime...

The amount of new devices and features I have gotten since 2015 is pretty awesome ...  I bought the Complete edition and then last year during the Black Friday sale I bought the Lifetime sub after having done a year sub the year before...
