1 year in, what's your general view on payware aircraft??

Absolutely.

Simming as a hobby was dying a slow death, surviving on the dedication of an ever smaller group of "study level" sim fans who were gradually all dying off from old age.

In a sad way, kind of the gaming equivalent of Harley Davidson who locked themselves into a particular customer base who are gradually getting geriatric and replacing their Harleys with mobility scooters.

Supposedly,  Reno allows 8 players in a race.    Which is going to be glorious,  imo.

Every once in a while in FS20 I will spawn into Daytona International,   because the Nascar track is situation directly adjacent to the airport.     I take the Extra 330 and practice racing around it,  staying inside the track borders.

I wish Carenado would come to their senses and work with us.  Our systems/FD/sounds and their visuals/FX… wow…

but when I asked… they ghosted me.  Oh well….

That thing is incredible.   The flight is to scale,  and the sound is on point.  Can't believe it even has retracts.   I always like watching these ultra-light slow fliers.  Awesome stuff.

My lord that would indeed be a fantastic match!

I guess while they're selling flying textures and making good money, they must be reluctant to share revenue.

Imagine how much more they’d make if it worked as well as it looked???

Carenado seem to trade on visuals over everything else. They even have a bunch of fans on the main forums who continually pop up in threads for other aircraft saying they are "rubbish" as the graphics are not up to Carenado standards, even the JF Arrows suffered from this sort of commentary a bit  😄

Some folks over at Reddit are as bad as well. I stopped reading their forums after some trashed the PMDG DC-6 visuals (not up to default standards, LOL) with no understanding  of the complexity of the aircraft, I just smh and never visited that place again.

As I recall there was a good bit of trashing of the DC-6 visuals here, as well, amongst all the people acknowledging what a triumph it was in general.   People with different tastes and preferences exist on every forum. 🙂

If you're looking for some partners to help on modelling/texturing, there are a few really bright sparks starting to show up as "indie" flight sim devs (wow, there's a phrase I never thought I'd utter).   If you see what Jonx, GotGravel, and 270Inc did with the modelling, textures, and fx on the Gee Bee R3 Special, it's really impressive.  Look at the details on this tension cable (more pix in the official forum thread), an almost throw-away detail that they sweated over.

I don't want to overstep, and maybe these are things you're already thinking about, but if you're getting rebuffed by another "established" developer, maybe reaching out to folks like the Got Friends team, either to work with as freelancers or bring on as partners, might get a better outcome?

Just a thought. 🙂

Dissing a fellow developer in public, albeit with a back handed compliment is probably not the best way to gain respect or customers.

The Optica is not by Orbx at all,  it is just sold on their store. You can also get it at Flightsim.to and it is made by someone calling themselves EA7 Simulations.  Support is via a discord channel called "jonx" .  No idea who EA7 are.

The flightsim.to aircraft is not the Orbx product.  Two totally different releases.  The Orbx one is much more detailed and realistic, but the Flightsim.to one is freeware and adequate for people who just want to fly around itn it for a while before moving on

IMO - Mooney 20R is still the best GA for those that don't need ultimate realism like the Arrow. The M2R just works really well and stays on the magenta line and makes nice soft landings using instruments or manually. It can use the GTN750 also. Not overly complicated like the Arrow in regards to realism and thats why I think it works well. The steam guages are fun to use for VOR's NDB's and intercepting radials etc. Its also quite nimble.

You can learn a lot about old fashioned navigation flying the Mooney in many different ways.

For $20 Xmas sale, the Mooney was a good buy. I guess when buing a plane you want the price to match its value and I think $20-30 is a good value for the Mooney.

The Stearman is also a pleasure to fly around in for nostalgia and sight seeing.

I'd keep it civil when talking about your competition especially in a market that has a small nich and forums overlap. You maybe right but still ..........
