Sim Skunk Works teases its Lockheed F-104G Starfighter

I think (or at least hope) by the time of the F-104G airforces had given up up on the Lockheed downward ejector and put in a normal Martin Baker ?

True, but even with alternate seats in the thing, is still had quite a restrictive speed and altitude envelope in which you were in with a reasonable chance of getting out safely. A lot of the time that wasn't the problem with the F-104G though, it was controlled flight into terrain accidents in poor weather and low cloud, where even the best ejector seat in the world won't save you.

Nope, it

Of course, it was my own made up little joke to answer David request for wing tanks 😉. The 104 had a notoriously high, almost outlandish, fuel consumption on A/B which drastically limited her operational range.

Oh my god, We get it already.

You don’t need to bring DCS up in every thread about combat aircraft.

How dare I, its like someone referencing MSFS and GA or passenger planes. Or naming FSL (P3D) when talking about an Airbus, Outrageous !!!!

Hover over my name and press "ignore User".

Do that now, Thanks and good bye....🙄

Back on topic, it does look nice with tanks.

One of the most important questions:

Does it howl like a proper Starfighter?

this one is a wee bit better, I remember this from FSX, never mastered it but did load it up and listen to the start up, a gazillion times. The only experience I ever had that was a close second (plane wise) was a full afterburner take off (F117) at an airshow in OKC long time ago

Are you sure it was an F-117? Because the F-117 Stealth Fighter did not have afterburners. (Nor does the B2 Stealth Bomber).

Best live airshow takeoff I ever witnessed was a B-1B Lancer doing a full afterburner short takeoff. Was airborne in 2500', turned away from the crowd to give us all the full sound and fury of those four engines such that you could feel it in your chest, and as the sound faded away, you could hear hundreds of car alarms from the parking lot.

Twas awesome.

Secret weapon.

By the time the enemy has turned off all their car alarms the invasion is complete.

Best airshow I have ever been to was the USAF 50th in 1997 at Nellis AFB. SR-71 did low flybys at full afterburner.

You're absolutely right, I'm lying about the whole ordeal.......................

They may have done a fuel dump and burn for display purposes. The F117A Pilot Operating Procedures definitely discuss how to go about dumping fuel though it is unclear if you can ignite it.

In Australia the old school F111s would regularly do a dump and burn for the crowd and the air show commentators almost always said it was "afterburners" .

Not sure how to take that... I'm sure you did see something quite cool, but perhaps you misremembered what the aircraft was (or maybe it was what Glenn said above).

I'm guilty of that. I was regaling a friend of mine about an F-14 Tomcat airshow demo I saw, but kept referring to the plane as an Eagle. He was a bit confused when I mentioned the fast pass with the wings swept. 😉
