Local Legends Ideas

Featured Replies

According to the Gamescom news post, starting with World Update 5 they're going to be releasing a payware plane that relates to the part of the world that the world update is focusing on, called 'Local Legends'.

The JU-52 coming out on the 7th will be the first example, representing Germany.

Any theories on what planes they could do for other countries?

When they get around to Australia how about a GAF Nomad ?

Maybe a bit too niche but for Canada the Avro Arrow comes to mind.

Or maybe a Snowbirds Tutor.

As long as we don't have to destroy it after a couple of test flights 😉

I was thinking about this from a British point of view trying to determine what iconic aircraft were still available to scan, as with the 52 and were super historic and not just a one off, and civilian (or a Civilian version)...   I came up with a fairly short list, any of which I would like...

Gypsy Moth, Tiger Moth, Brittania, Comet, Sunderland Flying Boat and of course Concorde.

I think any of these would fit the bill.  Personally, I would most like a Comet and Sunderland, but thats just me.

Now if we were to go into solely military aircraft.. there is a huge range and a lot of them are available to scan as well 🙂

Well it seems like they want aircraft they can actually access to 3D scan. The best they could get for the Arrow would be that mockup made for the CBC movie, but that's rotting away in storage somewhere at Pearson last I heard.

The Tutor would be cool.

Edit: Oh there is an Arrow nose on display in Ottawa.

Or for shorter distances Victor Airtourer?

For France, I would say the Latécoère 28 a long-haul mail plane and passenger airliner of the 1930s. It was the main-stay of the Aéropostale to open Transatlantic routes towards Africa and South America.

A true legend of civil aviation.

For the post-war period, the Caravelle short-haul jetliner would qualify as a legendary aircraft.

For the US I'd go with the DC 3 or Connie.  Both are iconic in every sense of the word.

I would say for the US something more historically significant that let you retrace significant historical events like Aerhart's Lockheed Electra or Lindburg's Spirit of St. Louis .

I think ground-breaking aircraft would also be interesting, such as some of the first jet aircraft / prototypes - Heinkel He 178 or 280 for Germany, Caproni N.1 when it's Italy's turn, and the Gloster E28/39 if the UK comes around again.  They would all be a handful!

Or for the US, breaking the sound barrier, Bell X-1.

Rob (but call me Bob or Rob, I don't mind).

I like to trick airline passengers into thinking I have my own swimming pool in my back yard by painting a large blue rectangle on my patio.

If we are speaking of military aircraft, I would add for France the Dassault Mirage IV, the no-tail, delta wing supersonic N-strike and deep reco jet.
