Gutsy Lady...

The tires are worn.  The shocks are shot.  The steering is wobbly.  But the engine still runs fine.

Yep, it's amazing what they can do with computer graphics these days. My grandson is heavily involved in CG and some of the stuff he has shown me is mind-blowing. One of these days all commercial video (movies especially) will be CG-only. It's that good.

W2DR,

That's not CGI - that's for real.  The woman is an American stunt professional - and she was placed on top of the building via helicopter... there's a video on the making of the commercial on one of the Commercial Aircraft sites.

You're both wrong.  W2DR it's real.  Mark, they climbed to the top of the bulding.

Thanks for setting me straight on that one Mark. But...she's not a gutsy lady. She's a crazy lady. I hope they paid her a LOT of money to do that.

I am surprised that it wasn't CGI. I don't envy anyone having to make that scary climb. I got tired just thinking about it!

At least they had the good sense to securely anchor her to the gin pole!

If you've been to the observation deck of the CN Tower in Toronto they have a section of glass floor where you can stand on it and look down 1400 feet.  You see people trying to crawl onto it and back away.  People try to take a step on it and back away.  A few of us walked on it.  I stood there and looked down.  I've never been afraid of heights but that gave me a word not allowed twinge.

My brother had a picture of standing on the edge of an outcropping in Canyonlands National Park looking down about 500 feet.

Wow, I stand corrected - the video I saw a couple weeks ago must have been wrong because it clearly stated they used a helicopter - and then the discussion thread of course went off on a tangent about how hard it would have been to hover close enough for her to step off etc... it makes much more sense she climbed.

As for that glass floor in the CN Tower - yup, I've been there, and flat out refused to stand on it.  The woman who took me there was jumping up and down on it calling me names for being afraid to do it.  My response was "I'm not afraid, I just understand a thing or two about structural integrity and fatigue"...  only a year or so before a man had killed himself in Toronto by throwing himself at an office window in another Toronto high-rise - all to show how strong the glass was.  His repeated displays to visitors finally resulted in the glass departing the frame - and him falling hundreds of feet to his death.   It would be just my luck, that the glass would fall out when I was standing on it - so I'm not even going to think about doing it!

And the really nice thing about the CN Tower is that the ticket cost is only $55 🙂.  -  Doug

Wow, shows you how long ago it was for my visit - it was free then! 🙂

BTW W2DR, I just love your avatar... !

And they do not charge for the flight down if the glass fails.

Thanks for posting that to set everyone straight.

Wonder why they didn’t just CGI it? Seems like it would have probably been easier, safer and probably wouldn’t have cost much more. Plus you probably wouldn’t be able to tell the difference. Most people who don’t research it probably think it’s CGI or fake anyway.

I don't think Emirates thought twice about the money.  And it's somehow refreshing to me to see something real instead of fake.  We have too much fake (CGI) stuff in out lives already.  It's taking over our lives.  There comes a point where when technology blurs the real and fake.

Just like the migration to the next new simulator to make flying a fake airplane feel more real.  Any pilot will tell you flying FSX or P3D and probably MSFS is pretty far removed from flying even a Cessna 152.  There really is no comparison.

I say hat's off to Emirates for making it real.

Agree 100 %...

It's an amazing feat - but I would say that stunt lady is bonkers!   And to top all that, she had to descend...
