Big WT G1000 NXi Update

Trying to understand what i am doing wrong. I load a flight plan from SimBrief using the world map, load the aircraft (tried several), see the waypoints are correct, take off and at some point click AP, then NAV, but nothing happens. Nothing happens when i click VS and click nose up.

What am i missing?

Could be user error (if the NXi is installed correctly)..

When you click AP, look at the PFD readouts at the top.  Is should start up with ROL and PIT.

Then look at the map on the MFD.. are you you close to the magenta line?

If you now click NAV, you should get a GPS readout on the PFD, either in gray or in green.

If GPS is in green, the AP will track the flightplan.

If GPS is in grey, NAV has not captured, but is waiting for you to get closer to the magenta line, which you should do in HDG mode.

Then, at some point, NAV will capture the flight plan track.

I’m curious as to why it does it like this. Obviously it knows there is a path which needs to be followed, what’s the benefit of forcing the pilot to intercept it themselves in hdg mode?

This is the way the real unit behaves.. I believe it is trying to save you from yourself..

If the magenta line is off a ways, you could be asking the AP to fly you into terrain to get to the flight plan track..

In IFR conditions, that could kill you.. 😉

The default nav data has a number of issues. Annoying things like KSFO (San Francisco) not having any ATIS frequency. Other airports, like KSWF, have the incorrect ATIS which makes it untunable for some aircraft. More annoying is that they never fix these issues. I've filed bug reports on both and they just come back as 'resolved' and they are not. The Navigraph navdata corrected these issues although I'm sure it has others I just haven't encountered them yet.

Oh and.. I love the g1000 NXI and also the WT g3000.

What's interesting is, if once GPS Nav has captured, if you were to disconnect the AP and fly 10 or 20 miles directly off course (say to deviate around a storm), if you then re-engage the AP, it will fly you back to the original course or to the waypoint at the end of that course leg. So as always, the pilot is responsible to maintain a safe altitude.

Suggest reinstalling the latest version of the G1000NXi (from the Content Manager) with no others mods in the Community folder to see if there is a conflict.

Al

Did that. No mods in Comm folder. Nothing works. Oh well, back to stock G1000. At least that works.

Two thoughts:

-- Maybe try a different aircraft if you haven't already.

-- Load into a different airport, and enter a simple FP directly into the G1000NXi -- don't use a FP from an outside source. Enter each waypoint yourself using the G1000NXi.

Okay figured it out. I had installed the DA62X mod. When i removed it from the community folder it left a folder in another location. So i had to look for all instances of that mod in other folders, not just the Community folder. Thanks for the help Al!

FYI that mod has been updated, the latest version supports the NXi.

As one data point, I use the latest versions of the DA62X and G1000NXi mods and it all seems to work fine.

I have no idea what the issue is. It worked for one flight. Now…broke again. Yet, the stock G1000 works consistently every time, with every supported plane.

Rob,

Tried the FP you posted with the DA-62 and G1000NXi mods, worked fine as far as I could tell.
