Big WT G1000 NXi Update

Featured Replies

What is the status of this mod? Is it now "better" and more complete than the "old" G1000 mod from WT still available on github? Does it make sense to switch from this github G1000 variant to the marketplace version? Thanks for any clarification...

It is just not "better" ---It is "MILES" ahead !!   Install and see for your yourselves. Enjoy !

The WT team are just phenomenal in the work they do and at what rate they bug fix and update the G1000 NXi

Thanks WT team !! @MattNischan

What is next for Nxi ? More MFD side features ?

MFD Nearest page would be nice, and possibly changing the display of  "RNAV R1L"  to  "RNAV R01L".. 😉

I just flew the latest release and everything is better.. including the glideslope indicator when flying an LPV approach.. it shows up at the right time, and is no longer "ghosting"..  Very little to complain about  🙂🙂

When selecting a RNAV approach, I noticed the current version of the MSFS G1000NXi does not indicate if advisory vertical guidance is available (LNAV+V or LP+V) when it is, as does the GTN750 (e.g., RNAV 17 at KPUB and RNAV 15 at 20N).

If I understand correctly, the GTN750 (at least in P3D) uses a Garmin navigation database, while the MSFS G1000NXi uses a Navigraph database. US govt approach charts don't indicate if advisory vertical guidance is available with LNAV approaches (don't know about Jepp charts), so maybe that is also true of Navigraph charts and has something to do with the MSFS G1000NXi approach chart selection display.

I'm curious to know if the RW G1000NXi indicates if advisory vertical guidance is available with an LP or LNAV approach.

Thx,

Al

I would imagine the RW unit to use a Garmin database.. wouldn't you?  😉

Yep, understand, but that doesn't completely answer my question regarding advisory vertical guidance. Maybe the G1000NXi and GTN750 databases are different in this regard for some reason (admittedly unlikely, perhaps). Nevertheless, I'm hoping someone with access to a RW G1000NXi can nail down the answer for sure.

Just to be clear, I know the G1000NXi GP diamond indicator will respond during a "+V " approach, I'm just not 100% sure if the +V will show up when selecting an approach.

And come to think of it, I also don't really know if the databases for the GTN750 and the newer GTN750Xi are different in any way.

Just to make sure I understand some issues when flying approaches using the G1000NXi:

1. If in GPS NAV (or APR) mode if you activate the approach in the usual way when outside the IAF, the G1000NXi will take you to the IAF and sequence you through the approach way points from there. If you are flying a RNAV approach with vertical guidance, if you then select APR ( if not already selected) on the AP, the FD will either command you (if the AP is off and you are hand flying) or the AP (if the AP is on) to capture the lateral course and GP to fly the approach.

2. If you are 'inside' (past) the IAF and have not activated the RNAV approach for whatever reason, you don't want to activate the approach in the usual way since that will take you back to the IAF. So instead you just let the G1000XNi sequence you through the approach way points, or you can activate a leg which is part of the approach, or go Direct to a way point that is part of the approach, and select APR on the AP as above.

3. If you are flying in VLOC mode what, if anything, does activating the approach do?

4. If you select APR on the AP when the LOC becomes active, again the FD will guide either you or the AP (depending if the AP is off or on) to capture the LOC and GS (if available) and fly the approach.

5. If flying a VOR or LOC only approach in VLOC, you can use either the AP NAV or APR modes. But the APR mode provides increased CDI sensitivity.

Clarifications, corrections, or additions appreciated.

Thx,

Al

I would not expect any difference, the flight plan will sequence directly to the IAF, but the NAV1 radio will steer the autopilot.  Not the GPS..

This is indeed something that pilots are warned about in real life... controlled flight into terrain has happened this way, killing the pilots.  Once you are past the IAF, you just let the autopilot fly the loaded approach, even if it was never activated.

Again, if you are flying in VLOC mode, the GPS is not guiding the FD or the AP.. it is the NAV1 radio that is in command.

VLOC essentially switches off GPS steering.

This data is encoded in the nav data loaded into the real world instrument, whether you get your data from JeppDirect or Garmin. We have worked with Asobo to add this to the BGL format and will be available in an upcoming sim update, at which point we will be able to use that data in the NXi.
