September 7, 20214 yr Maybe with the lightning Asobo is trying to simulate the rare phenomena known as St. Elmos fire Maybe not.... This just was just captured by Capt. So Asobo, who get their weather data from MeteoBlue, might be getting erratic/incorrect information and thus you get lightning in clear skies. Of course that's merely a theory, it could well be something else, regardless I'm still haunted by the "what lightning in clear skies bug?" quote from that early Q&A, that's when my eyebrow first raised to Asobos incompetence, the fact it still remains is simply poor....but alas here we are. I shared you point of view: it is most likely missing data streaming from MetoBlue (they cut the atmosphere in voxels and some are missing in the middle for example) and the game code is just basically: "missing voxel? use default (i.e. 0)" which translates in practice to "no cloud data? show lighting strikes" (like a missing "break" statement in a switch case...) As for your comment on the Q&A, I wouldn't judge any incompetence, but I'm amazed when they react to questions as if they were not told prior, and they couldn't find the info prior either, although we're told to post our questions early on so that they can select which ones will be asked for, which to me means also the ones they can prepare meaningful answers for?!

On the Q&A it's only been this year they've started taking questions in advance, what caught them out with the quote I wrote is someone said it in the chat room during an earlier Q&A. But the fact remains they know nothing about a big which was so very evident, not to mention it already had loads of posts about it on the forum at the time so there was really no excuse for not knowing about it. My opinion is that the idea that the team listens to users is a fable for the True Believers. They seem to follow rather rigidly a roadmap just having runners on forums who alert them when the noise becomes deafening like after the the controversial SU5 release which, I surmise observing their prompt reaction, was threatening the XBox version sales. September 8, 20214 yr When I was flying my World Tour, I noticed the vast majority of these fake lightnings occured in tropical and equatorial areas, more in Africa and Asia. Could it be related?
