Ive never seen this message, I always use quit to desktop option. 

Only time i have seen it is when i have not closed the sim down properly... I say leave it .

I have always and still do close the sim the correct way, as you suggest using Quit to Desktop.  However I still get the Safe Mode option screen every time I start MSFS, so I don't think its how MSFS is shut down unless of course its a CTD.

I only had it once, when I needed to close it via Task Manager because of a freeze. Otherwise, it loads normally, because I always quit to desktop via the options.

It must be crashing out at the moment you quit to desktop. Strange.

1. Start Sim

2.Open Dev mode and hit "Save Settings"

3.Close Sim via "Quit do Desktop"

4.Start Sim

5.Exit Dev Mode

6.Restart Sim

 

This did it for me. No more questions at startup.

In your case, I think you are left in the Dev Mod as you did not save the settings again. Therefore , we are aware that in Dev Mod, Safe Mod is not shown but you lose al the flight logs ,as well.

Isn't it the case for you ? Thanks.

It sounds like there is some mod that is crashing when the sim tries to unload it. Which mods / addons are you using?

The above list of steps should only be needed to done once. Step 6 turns Dev mode back off, you are not left in Dev mode (save settings is not required at that point). These steps essentially reset the "Safe Mode" so that it does not continuously appear every time you start MSFS. Once done, and MSFS is shut down properly every time, using Quit to Desktop, you should not see Safe Mode again, unless MSFS does indeed crash.

Nope, my Sim works as expected. I did lose my logs after the last reinstall of MSFS whatsoever...800 hrs blown into the wind....

Simply closing the window is not the correct way to exit the sim. There are open files that need to be closed, virtual drives that need to be dismounted, and other shutdown housekeeping that will only occur if you exit by using the “quit to desktop” option on the main menu.

Exiting MSFS by closing the window would be the equivalent of exiting a running Windows 10 session by simply turning off the computer’s power switch. Doing that would be a good way to corrupt your OS installation.

 

 

An additional observation i made is (as a Steam user) whenever i use my desktop shortcut to start MSFS the Safe mode message appears. Using the Steam client to start it doesn't show.

Crazy times...

Never had it.

Though that said, my game has no "X" to close it with either, you guys must be in some sort of window mode.

Hey! You're right. I've always used the Steam client (system tray icon) to start MSFS and have yet to see the Safe Mode prompt. Just for giggles, I went and found the flightsimulator.exe file and created a desktop shortcut for it. What do you know, every time I use the shortcut, I get the Safe Mode prompt.

How interesting. Looks like a bug in the Safe Mode implementation.

I wonder if all those that get it continuously are using a shortcut?

ALT-Enter will switch between windowed and full screen window mode. Windowed mode will show the "X". Full screen window will not.
