I’m planning on a new system completely, not the system in my sig… I was planning on upgrading just my gpu in my current system but gpu’s alone seem almost more expensive than a complete pre-built system.

You can afford to have a slightly weaker card in this sim. What you cant afford is to have a beast card and an underpowered CPU. Now granted it is way harder to get a GPU right now so i understand if most people lean on getting the stronger GPU.. But if your going to go that route please plan to sell the CPU quickly and upgrade

Also most importantly the resolution that you intend to run is important.

1080p and 2k .. should be a pleasureable experience. If your planning to use those cards with the expectation of true 4k .. hmm not so much.

Although I would like to run 4K, my budget won’t allow for a system capable of running 4K, so less is fine for me.

I got a 2K 27" LG that is leaps and bounds above my old 23" 1080P Asus.  I am very impressed with it.  My GTX 1080 Ti handles it fine - fps are only slightly less in built up areas compared to the old resolution.  I didn't have the desk space otherwise I'd recommend a 32" at 2K - easier on the eyes.

Nice!! I think I would be happy running 2K although don’t think I will be able to unless I get a new gpu, my 1060 wouldn’t handle it I don’t think..

What cpu are you running?

4790K @ 4.4GHz - she's on her last leg though...get's pretty toasty in the summer hehe.  I also have 32GB of ram which nice cause I'm always running lots of other apps at the same time.

go for the 5950x instead of the 3950x. Go big or go home

TBH - they need to match.  You want the game flipping between GPU bound and thread bound depending on the scenario.

To achieve that with current pricing though you probably need to spend 2/3 to 3/4 of your money on GPU and the remainder on CPU.  Just because GPU are overpriced at present.
