In my experience (I was on the job for a short while in a former life) yes they do. And for the same reasons I do today. Think of it this way, back when all the guns the police carried were double-action revolvers all you had to do was draw it and pull the trigger. Why should it be any different with todays semi-autos? We have "gun safety expert" number one on the forum who stores his deadly pistol under the bed, not locked up, magazine in place and then admits its so he can get it out, chamber a round WITH HIS FINGER ON THE TRIGGER. Gun safety expert number two, stores his gun unlocked, magazine in place AND A ROUND CHAMBERED and contadicts gun safety expert number one by telling us that ( obviously) we shouldn't have our finger on the trigger until the threat is assessed. 😁 No hard feelings guys but I'm not impressed with your gun safety advice. Why do you guys think many states make it mandatory to have a gun safe? Ive just seen on a forum a guy who opens his gun safe in TWO seconds. Surely you guys could spare two seconds. There are two primary reasons (do some research) 1.) to keep the firearms away from children, and 2.) to reduce the suicide rate among young people (the youngest person in my house is 77. So do I need a safe?). My State doesn't require a safe but in almost every case I know of the wording requiring a safe is similar: (1) A person who stores or leaves, on a premise under his or her control, a loaded firearm, as defined in s. 790.001, and who knows or reasonably should know that a minor is likely to gain access to the firearm without the lawful permission of the minor’s parent or the person having charge of the minor, or without the supervision required by law, shall keep the firearm in a securely locked box or container or in a location which a reasonable person would believe to be secure or shall secure it with a trigger lock, except when the person is carrying the firearm on his or her body or within such close proximity thereto that he or she can retrieve and use it as easily and quickly as if he or she carried it on his or her body. No different to how long it takes to get to a gun NOT in a safe. 🙄 I find it amusing that my dad had a LOCKED gun cabinet for his AIR RIFLES! And the police in the UK came out to check that he had them locked in his cabinet. 😁 Compare that to you guys with your deadly pistols magazine in place, rounds chambered, and lying under your beds. The statistics are making sense. I admit, I'm winding you up a bit, but please get yourselves a safe guys. One touch on the finger print scanner and its open. A split second isn't an issue. Maybe its because I'm English and guns aren't around here, but I find the way you do things very eyebrow raising. Edited October 25, 20214 yr by martin-w

And all you have to do is get up to open it. I guarantee you that I can get to my gun much faster than you can get to yours. Just imagine the bad guy entering your room with a knife or gun in his hand. Which would you rather do, get up and open your safe of reach under you pillow? And always remember Martin, never take a knife to a gunfight. You fall sound asleep. And then an alarm goes off. The intruder is right outside your door. You wake up. Confused. Was that the alarm clock? Or was it the smoke detector? What time is it? Maybe it was the telephone. By the time you realize what's happening you'll be lucky to have enough time to reach under the pillow or reach into the drawer or reach under the bed. I guarantee you may won't have enough time to get up and open the safe. October 25, 20214 yr Moderator On the subject of fingerprint scanner technology I can only relate just how surprised I was when enabling such on my latest smart phone... What was most surprising is that it doesn't matter the angle at which one presents the scanned "finger." It just works! Right side up, sideways, or even upside down! 😁 Fr. It seems safer to have an alarm system which automatically alerts the police and probably scares off the intruder rather than having to confront an intruder inside my house. Dugald Walker

More like Clint Eastwood in Dirty Harry. I've met him by the way. A while back I spent many hours at the Mission Ranch sitting at the piano bar listening to Jackie playing. She did Misty almost as good as Erroll Garner. Clint would wander through the bar and the dining room just asking people if they were enjoying themselves (he owns the place). A really nice, personable guy. October 25, 20214 yr Moderator How about a system that generates the loud sound of a pump action shotgun racking a round at the push of a button? One could wear a "panic button" similar to those First Alert type devices. Fr. Bill AOPA Member: 07141481 AARP Member: 3209010556 Avsim Board of Directors | Avsim Forums Moderator
