The haze doesn't seem to be in Europe, just the US.  I just flew out of Rotterdam and no haze at all.

I just flew in Florida and the Caribbean with no haze affect.  This can't be isolated to one region as the weather system covers the whole world.  It's just that when the METAR report calls for a visibility reduction it's overdone in the sim.  I hate the pop-up haze as you fly along as well, totally a bad idea or not fully realized on Asobo's part.  This should have had a staggered rollout like the replay option (only available in Dev mode) before throwing it on everyone with no way to turn it off.

Hello again,

Sincere thanks to all that shared their thoughts and expertise, I am most grateful; the many and varied responses were both interesting and very informative, I'd go as far to say an education 🙂

Thank you All.

Might help if you take a bit of time and provide insight as to what you like most about FS9, FSX, and P3D, as well as your current system specs.  There are only a small handful of FS9 loyalists left so I am interested what influences that.

You might also profile for us the quality and speed of your internet connection.

Basically I've stayed with FS9 because there seemed to be too much tweeking and changing with the later MS offerings, albeit I could see the benefit of some of the advances but for the most part I wanted to fly the Sim, not fiddle with the program.

My FS9 to be fair is heavily modified with add-on content but all of the mods were relatively straightforward and produced what they said they would. My Simming was often re-creating previous flights I had made or other projects were re-creating some of the 'Operations' my father had flown in WWII. A real eye opener and education to what we owe to that generation!

I also used the FS9 Sim for other flying projects such as circumnavigating Australia (Voz scenery) etc. Again FS9 was a very useful tool.

Indeed, what are your systems specs?

That does not sound right... the 2080 should come with 6-8 GB, not 4.. 🤫

I bet you, if you get MSFS and fly it for a few days, you will not go back to FS9. It's like comparing  Dolby Digital sound, to an 8 track tape player.

Mmmm....... Thanks for your response but I just copied the 'Spec'. from a page of 'Stuff' that my little 'Speccy' program spewed out 🙂 (I only pretend to know what it all means ) -  I was up front when I said I wasn't a Computer Whizz 🙂

This is what is printed on the Aug 2019  Invoice from  'Wired to Fire',  the very good, dedicated, Flight Sim Computer builder I bought the system from:

"Graphics Card:1 Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080 8GB GDDR6 Graphics Card"

Is that more what you were expecting? It's all jargon to me........:-)

That is indeed what I was expecting, and that will work very well with MSFS.

Based on what you said you enjoy doing, I predict that a new experience awaits you..

The "updating" stuff takes some patience and getting used to, but the flying experience is amazing..

Suggest freeing up a 500 GB SSD just for MSFS.. you will fill it over time.

Thanks Bert....... That Graphics card figure........ could it be the 'Speccy' program got it wrong or could it just be a duff something in the RTX 2080 card???  You've got me wondering now.....;-)

EDIT:  Also: I currently use the 500 SSD for the Sim with the 250 SSD for the O.S. It works well so would probably arrange a similar setup should I get this new Offering. Thanks again.

Why? I'm a heavy steam user and bought the MSFS version through the Microsoft store. Never had an issue. (in addition, I have dozens of other games I bought through the Microsoft store. Never had an issue with those either)

To start, the steam version does not install the program into a cryptically-named and locked file structure, as the MS Store version does.  Also, In Steam it's fairly straightforward to maintain parallel installs of MSFS across several PCs, with your login to Steam as the authenticator that prevents duplicate copies from running concurrently.

Bottom line, my personal opinion is that the MS Store in general is something of a convoluted mess still.

Your Speccy program is confused..

Right click on your desktop and start nvidia control panel

Bottom left: click on System information

Scroll down to "dedicated video memory"

Once you fly MSFS, you will never go back to anything else.

Not for everybody as I regularly fly XPlane for the aircraft not available in MSFS.  XPlane 12 will be a day one download for me too.  All the sims have something to offer.

My recommendation is buy the Steam version, so much easier to manage.

Thanks Bert...... Nvidia gives: 8192.  At least I haven't ended up with only half a graphics card fitted:-)

A lot of people don't have a problem with the MS store version, but many have.  I was ok with the store version until SU5 and then nothing but frustration.  I've had Steam for 10 years but never had a problem with any game.

Just have a look through the forum - lots of store version problems but very few with Steam.

Thanks for your thoughts........ I have tried X-plane  (9 or 10 I think was the last one I had loaded) I am rather curious about this MSFS now though. This is all very revealing, hearing directly from current users.

Thanks again.
