Head Tracker: The Puck

Featured Replies

The Puck by GrassMonkey. Is $79 instead of $170 (like TrackIR).

Unlike VR you can see your controllers, screens, keyboard, etc. No performance hit like there is in VR.

Back in stock after getting the new cameras (modified bullet proof PlayStation cameras).

Unlike TiR, the new version of the camera driverless plug and play and  the LED's are wireless.

The LED wand also mounts easier using velcro.

The LED tracking is not driverless of course, but it uses the ever popular freeware Open Track software giving 6 degrees of freedom just like TiR:

Yaw, Pitch, Roll (pan your head movements to look around)
X,Y,Z-axis (move head left/right, up/down, in towards screen/out.

The website has profiles MSFS 2020 (two actually) , DCS, IL2, Elite Dangerous, X plane 11, FSX, American Truck Simulator.

One man shop designer MSFS 2020:

5800X3D, RTX4070, 600 Watt, one or two 1440p 32" screens, 64 GB RAM, 4 TB  PCle 3 NVMe, Warthog throttle, VKB NXT EVO stick, Honeycomb Alpha yoke, CH quad, 3 Logitech panels, 2 StreamDecks, Desktop Aviator Trim Panel. Crystal Light VR.

I would love to try one of these.  I have one in my basket, but shipping to the UK is a bit unclear.

Edit:  Found it!  $18 to the UK.  I am going to give it a go while my TrackIR interaction in MSFS isn't so good.  It may well be better!

Thanks to @Fielder for the heads up!

Rob (but call me Bob or Rob, I don't mind).

I like to trick airline passengers into thinking I have my own swimming pool in my back yard by painting a large blue rectangle on my patio.

I can also recommend DelanClip, which is basically the same and it is wireless, which is a huge step forward from TrackIr's hellbound setup.
I do use it with a TrackIr camera and software, it works perfectly.

For transparency: I'm a community mentor at the BATC discord. However, I do not get paid for it in any way.

What's wrong with Track IR been using it for years, no problem until SU7.

The wire. It's worse than those old telephone cables. As said, I still use the trackir camera and software.

What wire, what are you talking about?

As I'm sure you know, if you use the Track Clip Pro there is a USB cable involved. If you just use the Track Clip, which I do and I suspect you do, there is no cable. The simple clip works for some, and not for others depending on their sim environment.

I don't know why we have to rehash, again, TrackIR vs whose know what device, over and over. Seems to me there has been plenty of that on this Forum.  There is no reason to constantly defend what you use or like -- to each their own. Sigh.

Oh, I have never used that wired light with Track IR, just the clip that comes with it. which has always worked perfectly. They have done tests using both the Pro and the regular track clip, and found very little difference in the accuracy between the two.

My understanding is the Track Clip Pro may work better in certain ambient light conditions, or over a greater distance. It is not a general accuracy issue.

This "puck" thing is interesting.  I have TIR but don't use it, so maybe finally I'll find a solution that I like.

I also am looking into the "Smoothtrack" app which uses your phone as a head tracker.

So just to finish up on this: DelanClip is basically a Track Clip Pro, just without any wires.

I use my Track IR in a room, with just a Venetian blind on a window, right next to my PC, only closed half way. Never had a problem with it tracking on a sunny day.

As I said, it depends on the environment. For example, a window/light source of some type behind the user can be a problem. We each use what works for us, and what we like. Simple.
