Terrible performance on the ground post SU7

Featured Replies

As the title says…before the update, everything was smooth as silk, getting 32-35 FPS on the ground,  37-42 in the air, and was really smooth 95% of the time. Now I’m getting 15-22 FPS on the ground and it’s a slideshow. In the air I get back to high 30’s, low 40’s and I’m very happy with it. On the ground, I want to throw up. This symptom seems more prevalent in the US, but I get slowdowns in Europe on the ground as well to a lesser degree. I’m hopeful the beta hot fix  is addressing this. I have changed nothing in my setup since before SU7 was released. Any suggestions?

Try the Beta? Performance is great by now.

Do you have AI Traffic on, if so, try turning it off.

Su7 has slightly degraded the performances of my sim. But the heavy stutters I had early in SU7 were related to the Global Ship Traffic. Once withdrawn from  Community the stutters were gone too. I saw them the first time taxiing in Venice airport with some ships not far away.

As Carlos said AI traffic can be a source of it too specially with non-optimized liveries or aircraft addon.

So don't expect the salvation from the hotfix but look for a non SU7-compatible add on.

Thanks for the replies…I turned everything off last night, no traffic at all, and had the exact same performance as if it was on, so that definitely isn’t the problem. In the sky, the sim is absolutely fantastic, butter smooth, sometimes margarine, really excellent. I’ll disable ship traffic later, but I’m pretty sure that isn’t the problem; something happened with SU7. It was immediate, very different the first time I tried to taxi and saw like 19 FPS and a stutterfest. Night and day difference immediately after the update, on the ground only. They did something!!! I’m hopeful the hotfix fixes it. I don’t really want to get into the beta…trying to keep things as simple as possible.

I agree with @NismoRR: Performance suffered with the introduction of SU7 and, yes, I'm using the beta.

Try turning off photogrammetry, I have read on the official forum that many have had performance problems running it after SU7.

You don’t say what your PC specs or your sim settings are so it’s difficult to know where to start.

SU7 definitely does not have to be all stutters in the ground, although some others are also saying they are seeing this. I have an i7 11700k @ 5 GHz, 32GB of 3MHz RAM, GTX 1080ti and M.2 SSD with the beta, and luckily performance has never been better for me. On the ground it is smooth and I’m getting up in the 40-50 fps range, in the air 50-60+. So the beta may help you too.

I don’t think your problems are necessarily due to the sim as such, but of course it is wretched to see performance drop after an update. So maybe something in your PC settings changed, or you have a hardware issue. It took me some time to optimise my PC, sim and graphics card, and that really helped. Too much info to reproduce here tho.

if you could give more details about your sim settings, hardware, OS  etc someone here may be able to help.

Yes I was getting crappy performance in SU7.  I had to disable photogrammetry...  SU7 didn't seem.as optimized as SU6 at least on my older rig.

My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL |

Su6 I got my system running 35 to 45 fps in all scenarios at 4k with LODs at 275 and 200, SU7 lost me 10fps on the ground, the only soloution I could find was to ammend LODs to 175 and 100 on the ground to get back to 35fps, once above 1500 feet I can go back to LODs 275 and 200 for steady 45 fps.

Sim update 7 definatley broke something for ground fps.

This was reported to their forums a while back. I have the same issue on the ground with photogrammetry turned on. So far, others users have solved this issue by re-installing windows, but I'm not about that life. I wish they could figure out what the windows fresh install fixes so that maybe it can be done without a fresh install.

The only thing that getting performance to bog down for me with SU7 was the thick mist, especial at airport, but set clouds too High solve that problem, and with the Beta I can run clouds at Ultra again and the performance is back like it was before SU7.

I have the same problem.

On ground, my fps is 15-20. On air, 30-40.

I use normal version, i think (how do you run beta?)

I have no reliable data, but I recently got back into the latest version of the sim, and had the same impression. Bad performance on the ground, once in the sky, everything is smooth. It's a bummer, as taxing on the ground ect. is horrible when not locked to 30 FPS.
