December 27, 20214 yr So I decided to start my initiation into MSFS Christmas day by installing it thru my Steam account. It took most of the night to download the massive system. When I tried to start it the next morning thru Steam, it died after about 4/5th of the blue line was done. I get an access violation every time I try to start it: FlightSimulator.exe Stopped working 12/26/2021 2:39:53 PM All Users 0xc0000005 Access Violation 0x01b1859a FlightSimulator.exe 1.21.13.0 D:\Steam\steamapps\common\MicrosoftFlightSimulator\FlightSimulator.exe 29,186 C:\Users\All Users\Microsoft\Windows\WER\ReportArchive\AppCrash_FlightSimulator._745914981866a05d1f739e3bd3f891b655f5c987_0950a464_45c88955-4e1d-4747-a7af-d536298140c0\Report.wer I don't think MSFS completely installed and I don't know how to either complete the installation or restart it. Any help will be appreciated. Jim Driskell i7-3770 3.4Mhz 8GB Ram NVIDO GTX 1060 6GB James M Driskell, Maj USMC (Ret)
December 27, 20214 yr Hi Jim, I too have a steam install but did not encounter any issues. What I do know is that this type of thing was an issue early on. May I suggest you look over at the official MS tech forums (MS Forum) because it is discussed. It may also be discussed here also. I sense you frustration, but I am sure it can get cleared up soon. December 28, 20214 yr First thing I would do is make sure that all Windows updates have been installed, that you have the latest graphics drivers installed, that the Steam client is up to date, and that MS Store does not have any pending updates. ...jim ASUS Prime Z790-E, Intel i9 13900K, 32Gb DDR5 Ram, Nvidia 3090 24Gb, Samsung 970 EVO Plus 500 GB and 1 TB, Samsung Odyssey G9 Ultrawide 49" G-SYNC Monitor.
December 28, 20214 yr that your CPU is below the minimum specifications doesn’t help https://flightsimulator.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/360013463459-Minimum-Recommended-and-Ideal-PC-Specifications-for-Microsoft-Flight-Simulator Dominique Simming since 1981 - [email protected] GHz with 16 GB of RAM and a 1080 with 8 GB VRAM running a 27" @ 2560*1440 - Windows 10 - Warthog HOTAS - MFG pedals - MSFS Standard version with Steam

The IPC difference between Ivy Bridge and Haswell was about 5%, while the presence of hyperthreading in Ivy Bridge i7 accounts for about +20-25% over the i5. Plus, the max turbo frequency of the i5 4460 was 3.4 GHz and 3.9 GHz for the i7 3770. The i7 3770 is far superior than the i5 4460. Even if not taken into consideration by MS in 2020 to establish the minimum specs it is clearly the winner. https://www.anandtech.com/show/7003/the-haswell-review-intel-core-i74770k-i54560k-tested/6 Edited December 28, 20214 yr by MrFuzzy 7800X3D | 2x32 GB DDR5-6000 CL32 | RTX 5080 | Alienware OLED 34" | 1 Gbps fiber
December 28, 20214 yr Isn't there some option in Steam to "verify" the installation / and or files? I think you go into the Steam interface, find the game / sim you are interested in and then there are options to do that verification. It is supposed to check every file is the correct one and resolve any errors in that respect (though I have never had to use it myself).

December 28, 20214 yr You could go to the location of report.wer file (Users\Microsoft\Windows\WER\ReportArchive\AppCrash_FlightSimulator._745914981866a05d1f739e3bd3f891b655f5c987_0950a464_45c88955-4e1d-4747-a7af-d536298140c0\Report.wer) and open it with like notepad or Wordpad if it is large and see if there is any info in there that may give an indication of what is going on.

This is not an installation that is tailored with add-ons that would either confuse the algorithm or stuff up a working installation. It is an out of the box install they are trying to get working in the first place. I don't think any harm can come by it in the OP's situation but if you differ then at least please provide a technical explanation as to why.

All I'm saying, is that the architecture is different (it's older!), which is why it fails to meet the requirements of MSFS, as they REQUIRE (when it comes to Intel CPU's) a 4th-gen CPU at minumum. December 28, 20214 yr Had a typo in my last reply. Correct location of the .wer file is: C:\Users\All Users\Microsoft\Windows\WER\ReportArchive\AppCrash_FlightSimulator._745914981866a05d1f739e3bd3f891b655f5c987_0950a464_45c88955-4e1d-4747-a7af-d536298140c0\Report.wer

According to reports on the Steam MSFS forums, using "verify files" deletes the entire MSFS install. I'm sorry I don't have a link, but you can find using Google with: Steam MSFS verify files
