I don't use the XBOX controller as an extra controller, but rather as my primary controller, which also has built-in panning capability. I don't see where the OP stipulated outside the cockpit panning....

But I also but corresponding drone movements on the same hat. So I have 3 mappings. The hat does the panning in cockpit view. The same hat does the same panning in external view. The same hat does the same panning in drone view (showcase camera view). I set those up in Sept 2019 on the first day. Exactly like I had them in FSX (except there was no drone camera). And FS9 etc. Same mapping for years and years. 5800X3D, RTX4070, 600 Watt, one or two 1440p 32" screens, 64 GB RAM, 4 TB PCle 3 NVMe, Warthog throttle, VKB NXT EVO stick, Honeycomb Alpha yoke, CH quad, 3 Logitech panels, 2 StreamDecks, Desktop Aviator Trim Panel. February 21, 20224 yr Being left handed it became natural for me to pan with the mouse in one hand while flying with the joystick in the other. Sure I could use the hat switch now but the movement is more robotic and I use it for other functions like trimming. Of course no one at Asobo fly with the mouse so these kind of bugs escape their attention and when reported are kept on the backlog until enough votes. Think about that, they will know about a bug and that it breaks the sim for certain users but won't do anything about it. Absurd, but I don't blame Asobo, I blame that Jorgie guy for letting this sim be mucked up so far.
February 21, 20224 yr The most natural and intuitive way to achieve this is TrackIR. If i relied on hat switches, I'd probably have given up simming entirely. It's clunky. TrackIR is one of the best investments you can make in your flightsim. It's a complete game changer. I've been using it for about 15 years and by some form of mirable, am only on my second one. The downside is, they need to be handled with care. Very light and brittle and quite expensive when last I checked. There are other copycat options but I've not looked into them. Early copycat versions were 1/10 Edited February 21, 20224 yr by ErichB
February 21, 20224 yr TrackIR is unfortunately extremelly expensive, and mine broke some 3 yrs ago :-( I use OpenTrack, but it's not the same thing. Does it's job in IL2 but not on an airliner where I want to have the 6DOF... I always use the mouse to pan in MFS. Maybe one day I can give a go to VR....
