Flying the NEO

Featured Replies

Is there anyone else who hates flying the Airbus as much as me?  I can never get it to do anything except go out of control/  I tried it again today after having not used it in ages, thinking maybe I'd have better luck figuring it out, but when I couldn't get it to hold an airspeed or a vertical speed, I just turn off the AP and flew visually back to the departure point.  My virtual passengers can get into a Boeing aircraft and we'll go from there.

Are you using the FBW version??  That experience sounds like the default version to me with all of its usual default AP and flight plan issues...

Well, the Airbus is literally the easiest airliner to fly in history.

use the FBW version, the default one isn't great.

Okay, I downloaded the installer from FBW and installed the aircraft, but after starting MSFS I don't see it in the list.  Do I have to do something extra?  Does it take the place of the airbus that is there by default?

It should show up under 'Airliners' as its own separate aircraft.  If it isn't, make sure it got installed properly into your Community folder.  Also, I'd recommend using the 'Experimental' version as it has been very solid and no issues at all on my end..

First thing I do in the A320 is turn the FLT CTLs off, because I prefer as much manual control as possible.

Okay, that one just does its own thing as well.  Must be me.

Make sure you have the FBW version loaded up, not default (although the default is really no worse than any other default sim aircraft and better than 787 etc). Then take some time to learn it’s differences to a Boeing. If you are coming from a Boeing, handling an Airbus is quite different but it is well behaved and very easy to fly. For example, when manually flying, don’t try to fly it using trim switches like you might on a Boeing. It will trim itself. The AP works very well in the FBW too, so if it is misbehaving for you, definitely need to get your type-rating.😁

That's a joke, right?

Trust me when I say I was a hardcore PMDG 737 guys for years.  I bought the FSLabs Airbus years ago but didn't really allow myself time to appreciate it.    I kept flying the 737, which I love(d)

Come MSFS and a year's worth of FBW development, and I don't think I will really ever enjoy flying the 737 again as much as I used to.  The (FBW) Airbus is smarter and much more immersive in every way than the (P3D) PMDG 737 ever was.  Apples and Oranges comparison, I know.  But PMDG had better knock this 737 rendition out of the ballpark.  Because the FBW Airbus, for me, is one of the most enjoyable and immersive experiences from an airliner perspective - on any sim platform.

Hi there,

The FBW A320N is a wonderfully intuitive aircraft and a delight to fly. You do need to understand the Airbus philosophies of flight phases, thrust lever detents, flight laws etc. Once you get your head around these, you will really enjoy it.

Depending on the conditions, I often fly using the side-stick up to cruise and from the STAR entry to the runway. Contrary to misinformation, the aircraft doesn't fly itself!

I hope you stick with it and find enjoyment.

Cheers.
