Possible performance decrease fix

Featured Replies

Has anyone with a simshaker (using simconnect) noticed the engine vibrations occasionally cut out when the reg entry is set to 4, but other vibrations continue? So far have only experienced it with the modified entry.

Haven’t noticed but I’ll check next time on. Don’t get on much in spring and summer, too busy

Didn't notice this when it first came out but was referred to this adjustment from someone outside this forum. Only had a couple of short tests with it in place but so far - amazed. I have posted elsewhere here about suffering from the FPS issues that have affected some of us since SU9, and I'm still not getting the performance I should on the ground and around/over airports (and possibly elsewhere for all I know, this all coincided with me fitting the 3090ti so I really don't know what level of performance I should be getting yet), but this NDU change has made a huge difference for me.

Even with the SU9 problem still in place, I'm getting more like high 20s on the ground at KORD now (I was getting low teens before) and once I get up and away I'm typically seeing around 45-50 where I was getting around 35 before. And it feels very smooth. I don't think I'm getting any stuttering but this is all on the basis of just a couple of short test flights while experimenting with something else (messing around with addons linker trying to get a satisfactory way of removing all the default airplanes from the sim - yeah, I know I can just uninstal them . . .)

So I'm posting in this thread to bump it up again in case there's anyone else out there who was unaware of it and could maybe benefit from it. It seems to have worked for me - big time.

Ryzen 9 7900X, Corsair H150 AIO cooler, 64 Gb DDR5, Asus X670E Hero m/b, 3090ti, 13Tb NVMe, 8Tb SSD, 16Tb HD, 55" Philips 4k HDR monitor, EVGA 1600w ps, all in Corsair 7000D airflow case. Sims in use - 2020, 2024, XP-12 and -11, FSX/SE, P3Dv4.5 and v5.4. DCS and AFS2 installed but rarely used

I think there are many things that can cause a performance drop - some of them are going to be specific to individual installations and systems.

I had the first performance drop I've ever experienced with the sim yesterday - I was running at the normal 34-40 fps for me after takeoff. About 1/2 hour in the sim became very unresponsive to control input - a quick checked showed that I was suddenly operating at 6 fps. Everything appeared normal and the area I was flying in was not a complicated geo region nor were there any major cities around, etc.  I noticed that the VFR Map window was suddenly displaying a lot more detail than I've ever seen before - I closed it and was instantly back at 37 fps.  Eventually I was able to find a happy medium with the map by zooming in and using less range.

Hmmm...

Until 3 days ago I had never experienced performance degradation over "long-haul" flights, and suddenly got hit hard towards the end of my very first 3-and-a-half hr flight with the Fenix A320.

The very same route with the FBW A32NX has always been easy on my system.

I have not yet found the time to read through the tons of Fenix threads on AVSim, and apologies in advance if it has been asked a billion times but: is the Fenix known to suffer from long-haul perf drop? That would be a real bummer 😕 She is a sweet bird.

And did anyone try this tweak specifically for the Fenix while everything else works fine in the sim ?

Cheers,

Thanks for reviving the thread @andy1252. Coincidentally I’d just finished reading through all (515) replies in the thread over at MSFS forums.

I disabled NDU a few days ago and so far at least not any adverse effects. I don’t usually do longer flights than ~2 hrs. But today I decided to fly from Edinburg to Cairo in the Fenix (around 5hrs) to check how the sim handles that. I’ll report back here with my findings.

I finally did this NDU thing, too, but it had no discernible effect for me. Actually since I deleted Tooblar Pushback I haven't seen any degradation even on 5h flights, but I guess there are more factors at work here, so it's never that easy and not the same for everyone.

For transparency: I'm a community mentor at the BATC discord. However, I do not get paid for it in any way.

Just landed in Cairo. Everything went well, no fps degradation. Even AIG TC managed to stay alive the whole time.

Now this could be due to a number of things. I'm not sure if this NDU thing has anything to do with it. I also deactivated Toolbar Pushback, due to many reports of it affecting performance.

Yes confirm the same, the source of the FPS degradation was Toolbar pushback plus some weird issues with Fenix like aggressive pitch .. etc. Removed it and all issues were resolved. I hope the author will fix this soon
