I had one of my addons not load before opening MSFS, so I decided to change the registry entry back to '2' - regedit wouldn't open and neither would a command prompt!  I downloaded another registry editor, change the entry back and my addon opened fine and

Are you on the latest windows 11 build? I too have this problem, opening a command prompt or registry editor has a delay of up to 10 minutes lag!

Strange!  There is no logical reason why that should happen unless there is something else going on.  Normally a quick reboot clears up problems like this.

Yes, quite odd.  Many reboots but only after I downloaded another registry editor could I reverse the change.  Everything worked as normal afterwards.

I am using W11 - maybe a coincidence I made the registry change but a windows update actually caused the problem - GEForce overlays stopped working also!  I usually have a couple of filters active, but now no screen opens when I press alt/F3, just a message a compatible game is required.

yeah, I am having bad lags here opening things with the latest update. Try and open system configuration or powershell, or regedit.... They take about 5--10 mins to open!

I downloaded Powershell and that opened straight away.  I am having programs not loading - MSFS itself isn't starting every time so many reboots have been  required.  I use Addons Linker so activated my 'empty' profile but still same issues.

I think it’s windows 11 issue. Same thing here. Only started happening since windows updated itself.

How do people find this stuff out? It's such a random change. Something deep in the registry is something I would never think to tamper with.

This has def improved the smoothness 100%. great tip!

I tried it, but already had 100% smoothness so didn't notice any change.

This started circulating on PC gaming forums about 2 weeks ago.  I saw a reference to this for ARMA/SQUAD for the first time last Monday.  Basically talking about any game with large data transfer.  At the time I did not think about MSFS applications.

Seems to work for me! 2.5 hour flight in the WT CJ4 and I have the exact same latency/FPS on takeoff that I did on landing. More testing tonight!

Yeah it was short lived after a 3 hour flight the performance was horrible after landing, i reverted back to the original settings...

I am finding the same,

I just did a relatively short flight from Manchester to Belgrade in the A32NX and especially towards the end of the flight the sim was stuttering pretty noticeably in places despite having a solid 30fps (VSYNC on & fixed 30fps in NVCP) My CPU & GPU were nowhere near pegged and I even dropped the settings. Something definitely happened with SU8 as I am seeing no where near the fluidity I had prior to this.

In the past my PC has never had any problems with MSFS slowing down, but just having an old nvidia gtx 1060, and a relatively new AMD 5600X CPU the fps are something I'm always aware of, but trying this hack/trick, I have found its given MSFS a 6-8 FPS increase, flying in the same area of Phoenix, Arizona.....was getting 20fps (I know - hopeless, graphics cards these days are far too expensive for me) before the fix, but after....was getting 26-28 fps over the same area.

It does work, don't know why, but I suppose Microsoft are being too nosy and invasive with not just the telemetry this trick is cutting out, but maybe other programs associated with the telemetry that now don't need to run - as the telemetry has been switched off with this hack hasn't it? 😄

Not seeing any performance improvements here, but I just completed a 4 hour flight from KNEW to KLAX and I didn't notice a single stutter. Hmmm.... I think I'll keep it.

I used to have 30, and I upgraded to 1giga. World of difference in MSFS. Maybe this tip works better with fast internet, anyone test on slow internet?

I also have 1 Gbps internet, and this fix has made MSFS much smoother for me. I have a 5900x and 3080 ti, and I couldn't use the Ultra preset before, because of the stutter. I can now.
