Sim Update 9 Beta - Build 1.25.7.0

What about stuff like Rex Airport Textures? Do this also need to be uninstalled and reinstalled? And when does one need to do this? Presumably if every thing is working well, one doesn't mess with any of these files, but if there is anomalous behavior of some sort, it's something non-random to try.

In other words, what is being fixed here that is broken?

There was 1 poster on here with stutters after installing SU9. I suggested deleting the scenery indexes and content.xml. It started a discussion about how we each maintain our installations. I use a script, others perform the exact same thing via the tools built into the addon linker. Then a different user reported back that it fixed their crashing on startup problem with SU9.

So. Crashing was fixed here. No idea if it helped with the stutters the other user was having. YMMV as it is not a magic bullet, and may have pitfalls as we are currently discussing.

If you want to see if REX gets picked up when a new content.xml is created during sim startup, rename your current content.xml to content.xml.bak and then startup MSFS. Exit MSFS and see if the REX entries are in the new content.xml. If they aren't, then you know you have to reinstall it or manually add the lines back in if you ever delete content.xml (or do it in addon linker).

Thanks so much. I can see how this process would address content-related issues.

Cheers.

Has anyone successfully exited the SU9 beta without blowing up their entire installation (on steam)?  Against my better judgement I opted in today and the result was a performance degrade and then a .net based CTD which I've never even had in MSFS before...having severe remorse on joining the beta and would rather just spend the rest of my long weekend flying back in SU8 if possible.

Thanks.

Yes did it yesterday after experiencing frame rate issues, I’m now back in the Beta with good frames.

my issue is either AIG or Global AI ship traffic

New PC Ryzen 9850X3D - 32gb ddr5 6000Mhz - MSI MAG B850 Tomahawk wifi - Gigabyte wind force gaming OC 5090 - 2TB Sabrent NVMe. Old PC - Ryzen 5900x - 32gb 3600Mhz RAM - Asus Strix X570-F Motherboard - ASUS TUF OC RTX 3090 - 1TB Sabrent NVMe. AOC AGON 32" 144Hz - Honeycomb Yoke - Thrustmaster HOTAS Warthog. T Flight Rudder Pedals - Trackir.

Thanks, I think I’ll try disabling global ai ship traffic then before I try exiting the beta.  FWIW I’ve seen the frame rate issues before manually activating AIG.

Used your script, thanks for the detailed instructions by the way. However I cannot find these options in addon linker...

Back on my FS machine. Navigate to

C:\ProgramData\MSFS Addons Linker

Open

MSFS_Addons_Linker.ini

With notepad. Set

FlightSimulator_LaunchDeleteContentsXml=True

FlightSimulator_LaunchDeleteSceneryIndexes=True

and launch MSFS via the linker.

BTW, issues like the one with Navigraph may become more prevalent. Initially, we only had default World scenery and a few addon airports. Now, more and more packages sitting in-between are added. As a definite example, I use the recently  released FSDG Hesse-Thuringia addon (FSDG - Landmarks of Germany - Hessen & Thüringen MSFS | Aerosoft Shop) for both German states. In addition, I have a  freeware package for my home town Jena by Barometrix (Jena City – MSFS (bahrometrix.de)) Both contain POIs for my hometown and do - not unexpectedly - clash on at least one POI.

I think I will find a way to make them cooperate, but in my mind it's a shortcoming of the MSFS design they didn't present a well-documented scenery layering system ab initio as FSX or P3D do.

Kind regards, Michael

How is the navigraph database then affected?

I think it is deleted then?

Does it harm if Addon Linker does this with every start? Longer loading times?

Thanks @pmb

By the way I usually run MSFS using a .bat script:

C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe /C start shell:AppsFolder\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe!App "-FastLaunch"

It removes the opening cinematics shaving a few seconds off the loading. Any way to edit the MSFS_Addons_Linker.ini in such a way to enable fastlaunch? Could it be related to one of these lines:

FlightSimulator_LaunchType=3
FlightSimulator_Launch=

The linker admits the -fastlaunch option, too. See under Tools|Options|General in the GUI.

These are valid querstions.

- I don't use Navigraph, thus this isn't an issue for me. The entries might well be deleted indeed. But I think contents.xml is rewritten now and then with addition/deletion of scenery packages anyway, isn't it? Otherwise it would be full of stale contents soon.

- I think the entries are in alphabetical order (similar to X-Plane) which gives you a possibility to maintain a certain order by renaming critical packages.

- I have quite high loading times, but I also use quite a number of addons. Anyway, it's well possible that deleting of contents.xml/SceneryIndexes adds to the loading time.

  • 4 weeks later...

I hate digging up older threads, but I found the answer as to why I was not having problems with missing Navigraph entries in content.xml after running my cleaner and some of you were.

Check out NAVData's post from January 2nd in this thread about RAAS from the FS2Crew forum. (9th post)

The reason that the correct Navigraph entries are always present for me is that the Navdata Center starts with my computer and runs all the time. It's always watching...
