Mandatory add-ons for MSFS

Featured Replies

Hi,

I'm coming from P3D using complex add-ons used mostly for airliner experience.

I've listed some addons which I would define as a must have in order to get the experience in MSFS as well.

FSRealistic - reminds me of Accufeel back in P3D days but was less suitable for big jets. Is this recommended for MSFS?

Simsounds - for cabin announcements

Simple Traffic - until we get a proper AI tool (which is soon to be released by Justflight so I may want to wait)

Rex weather force - mandatory? I'll be purchasing Active Sky once released

Last question - standard vs. premium assuming I'm only looking for airports, I've noticed most airports missing in the premium were / are being developed by 3PDs so I tend to go with the standard.

Any other add-ons you recommed? What do you say?

Thanks!

No toolbar handle mod... so that everytime you move your mouse you don't see that annoying white bar. Flightsim.to

Get the (free) Addons Linker, you are going to need it.

I have the standard version as well.. you miss out on the steam gauge C172.. but it saves some money and a lot of disk space.

Aside from Simple Traffic, I don’t think you need any of these add-ons.  The best thing about MSFS, compared to the other flight simulators, is that MSFS is already really good out of the box without any add-ons.

Now as for livery and models for AI planes, the best options are Simple Traffic and AIG. AIG is free and I heard it’s not that easy to setup. But once you figure out how to get AIG working, the traffic looks very good.  Otherwise, Simple Traffic is also good but it costs money.  I am also not sure if Simple Traffic covers different models, something that I believe AIG does.

And like others have said, when you start to accumulate a lot of add-ons, you want add-on linker to manage your add-ons.

flightsim.to has free add-ons.  Just make sure the add-on you get at flightsim.to is compatible with Sim Update 9.  Mods that are not compatible with the latest MSFS update can cause CTDs, stutters, and a lot of other problems.

Myself I have a 2/3 full-size 738 cockpit and use those apps.

Esoecially when taking off/approaching better looking trees/bushes are adding to the realism.

BTW : I also use Zinertek Enhanced Airport Graphics…

I think the chance is low for airport add-ons but it’s possible.  That’s why most people use add-on linker. You can enable & disable add-ons with add-on linker before you launch MSFS, and any add-ons you have disabled cannot possibly affect your current session of MSFS.

Just a note - some people just don't update their addons to show compatibility.  I don't think I've touched many of my paints and they still work fine.  It's the site that marks addons as non compatible each time a new SU comes out.  I'd recommend people try addons anyway (and use Addon Linker for ease of enable/disable) in case something doesn't load well.

AIG works in MSFS as well. As a matter of fact, I install all the AIG planes but then use MSFS's built-in Live Traffic. This allows me to enjoy the nice models of AIG but not have to deal with the AIG Traffic Controller.
