One thing that would significantly improve MSFS for you?

Recommended Posts

So I assume we all enjoy using MSFS but we can also agree, things are never where we want them to be.

However, instead of this turning into a long complaint thread of people's laundry list of things, if you could improve / fix / add one thing right now that would significantly improve your experience, what would it be?

My own personal: Complete UI / UX overhaul. I find the entire experience clunky at best, slow and sometimes counter-intuitive. Especially setting up controls was a real test of patience at times. While I don't actively use X-Plane, their UI right now is fantastic. Fast, logical, to the point and it's almost scary how easy it is to set up controls. Then you boot up MSFS and it's like boxing underwater the entire way.

What's yours?

I think the UI is fine. I have no issues here.

If I could wave a magic wand with three wishes, those would be

1. Better weather system
2. Better ATC
3. A fix for dawn/morning being way too dark in my neck of the woods.

In addtion:

4. Complete overhaul of the AI-system

A few

-weather and clouds. Need cirrus clouds

-runway textures. Not asking much. Just runway and taxiways that look equal to what we had in p3d.  And with runway edge lights that are not on 24 hours a day

-ability to use chaseplane. While I’ve learned the new camera system, I don’t like it.

Couldn't agree more about the UI. It would need a complete re-write to make it responsive. Microsoft are able to do menu systems that dynamically change to display new content such as the Forza Horizon series without making the menu sluggish. I miss the keyboard shortcuts from earlier FS version such as simply being able to press Alt-W, W to set the weather

The one thing that would exponentially improve my experience in MSFS would be:-

Improvement of the stock FLC flight director/autopilot mode code

As we know, previous iterations of Flight Simulator, right up to FSX and P3D, had no integrated FLC mode at all. (Some 3rd party devs created such modes for their products).   It is good that Asobo finally included the most commonly used FD/AP mode for climbing in aircraft that have the mode.   However, I read somewhere that the proprietary FLC code used in MSFS came from Carenado.   I can wholly believe this, as the issue we see today, where - on engagement of FLC mode - the FD/AP initially surges up, then down, then slowly 'grabs' the speed at selection, is identical to how the FLC/Speed/IAS modes behaved in Carenado's aircraft for FSX and P3D, that included the mode.

If you're flying under FD and engage FLC mode, this issue means you temporarily lose useful vertical guidance, as the FD bars will usually shoot off the PFD screen for a while, then move down below the horizon and then, finally, settle at an indication which does represent the captured speed.    After that initial glitches, it works well.

Things are even worse if you already have the AP engaged and select FLC mode - because the aicraft will then follow this eratic 'hunting' behaviour, before finally grabbing the appropriate speed.

Worth pointing out that Working Title, with their G1000NXi mod have completely resolved this issue and FLC engagement with FD/AP is perfectly smooth and rapid, in aircraft that use the NXi mod.     The WT enhanced G3000 and G3X do still have the default poor FLC engagement issue though .....  thus, I feel our hopes are best placed with WT in further customizing the G3000 and G3X units. 😎

All I want is to be able to move the external camera closer to the airframe without changing the zoom, like you could in FSX.

Take-offs are optional, landings are mandatory.
The only time you have too much fuel is when you're on fire.
To make a small fortune in aviation you must start with a large fortune.

There's nothing less important than the runway behind you and the altitude above you.
It's better to be on the ground wishing you were in the air, than in the air wishing you were on the ground.

Wow, 9 posts before historical weather was mentioned. Is that a record?

Too many quirks in the sim for just one:
Aircraft interaction with runway, AI traffic engine, AI aircraft lights, different cloud types, turbulence setting slider, and so on...

And yet, there are some spectacular moments in this sim that make it more than worthwhile to start it up.
Hopefully, some of the items on my list disappear after SU10 releases.

Inertia.  There is some inconsistency. The planes still seem to change direction very quickly as if they have no mass to them.  I think this might contribute to why they weathervane all over the place on take off and landing as well.

Especially in GA aircraft, it doesn't seem like I am flying anything with any significant mass.

Just watching some video reviews of the new Chipmunk, and it seems to flip about like a paper plane, but it isn't just limited to this aircraft of course.

Call me Bob or Rob, I don't mind, but I prefer Rob.

I like to trick airline passengers into thinking I have my own swimming pool in my back yard by painting a large blue rectangle on my patio.
