Always thought with a smile...

That M.S., when starting the sim...at the bottom right of the opening still screen, calls MSFS a 'game', and not 'starting--> simulator<--'.   Sort of suggests the overall mindset of MSFS?

Always makes me smile...for the outright wars some have here, as to whether MSFS is after all, a flight game...or uh...a serious simulator of the physics of flight.   M.S. feels it's a game, it seems lol!

There are plenty of flying games out there but MSFS is a flight simulator.  Fenix A320, Just flight BAe146, PMDG B737, Leonardo Maddog and plenty of excellent GA offerings not only make great efforts to simulate flight, but deep systems simulation too. Navigraph, Simbrief, Vatsim, Garmin Pilot, Foreflight, Aerosoft RAAS system, FS2Crew virtual CoPilots - and so many more excellent utilities and addons make MSFS a clear simulator.

You would think...but again,  M.S. calls it a game.   Would it not have been just as easy, as to reinforce the notion that the offering is more than another video game (of flight) ,  by saying...starting on the Start Screen....Simulator rather than what it does say...starting Game...  Just thought that was an interesting take, by no other than M.S. themselves... 🙂

Liabilities.

It is a game in the genre, "Simulation" (instead of role playing, 1st person shooter, etc).  XPlane 12 will be the same, though one can debate which game simulates better according to a set of agreed upon criteria--good luck with this last part 😂

Exactly.

The scenario MS lawyers are considering is as follows: Call it a simulator, and you risk some loon who learns to fly a plane using it, then getting in a real aeroplane and killing themselves, followed by some 'grieving' relative seeing a law suit cash cow. Conversely, call it a game and the case is dismissed. This is the exact reason MS trademarked the 'Flight Simulator' name. They get to call their software by that name and have it quite obviously be a flight simulator, but they make sure they refer to it as a game at all times.

Call it a game and you sell more - call it a simulator and you sell less.  I think others are correct when they mention liability etc.

XP12 will also be a clear simulator imho.  Which one is 'better' will purely be down to an individuals wants.

That's right because there is no consensus opinion re sufficient and necessary conditions to be called a 'simulator'.

Oh boy here we go again again. All stuff you fly on computer are games because you can't log your hours toward proficiency, certificate or rating. However, any game to reasonable degree  can become a simulator if one  using it as such.

The lol part consist of the fact that many people who criticizes MSFS physics actually unaware how airplane fly in real life. Instead they compare one game with another game where they think actual physics better.

Little word of disappointment. No matter what game you MSFS, XP, P3D and etc you won't solo next day in real airplane 🙂

So let's see if I understand this: Microsoft doesn't call Microsoft Flight Simulator a simulator?

It appears that the only simulator with "simulator" in the very name of the simulator is Microsoft Flight Simulator. It's never called X-Plane Simulator or P3D Simulator. So there!
