Aaaah. So that’s what the expression “closer to metal” refers to. Can’t believe I didn’t get that until now. This site also has good info on 11 vs 12: https://www.hardwaretimes.com/what-is-the-difference-between-directx-11-and-directx-12/ 7950X3D | RTX 4090 | 64GB DDR5
September 12, 20223 yr 24 minutes ago, lagaffe said: Just for fun 😃 Do you know the differences between DX11 and DX12? Apart from the fact that DX12 is more up-to-date, the main technical points are VRAM management. a) On DX11, the management of this memory is mainly done by the operating system, whereas on DX12, this management is deferred to the application. This induces a lot more work for the programmers in order to make an efficient port. On the other hand, DX12 is designed to be much closer to the hardware than DX11 is, which allows, among other things, when the programming is well done, to have a faster rendering. So yes, a DX12 game will be a bit faster but it will require a lot of work from the developers to ensure this. b) Another counterpart is a more delicate memory consumption (VRAM) and more often a higher VRAM usage (complexity of management by the programmers). If you refer to the discussions on Prepar3D during the transition to DX12, you will see that these are the main points that Lockheed Martin had to solve to optimize Prepar3D v5. The main feedback on Prepar3D in DX12 was that these versions consumed more VRam at identical settings. Then for the speed, as this API allows many more technical things, it goes without saying that programmers try to use them to enrich the simulator and therefore who says more effects says that the gain in speed is very quickly consumed and therefore in the end we have a more beautiful simulator but not really faster. September 13, 20223 yr I was out of town when 1.27.20.0 got pushed out and rolled back so it never got installed on my system. Before I left, 1.27.18.8 crashed just about every time I looked at the screen. Yesterday, I flew 4 short flights Zero in flight crashes, but got the graphics overheating message and crash once in the screen right before the flight starts. Today, I also had an interface crash, but flying has been perfectly fine. Did Asobo fix something in 1.27.18.0, or did they make a server side fix? Seems stable now and nothing should have changed on my end since 1/27.20.0 never got installed. i9-10850K, ASUS TUF GAMING Z490-PLUS (WI-FI), 32GB G.SKILL DDR4-3603 / PC4-28800, GIGABYTE RTX5080 16GB WF OC 3 FAN running 3440x1440

By some divine intervention I haven't suffered from them myself (knock on wood). Have no idea if they changed anything server side. 7950X3D | RTX 4090 | 64GB DDR5
