None of the links work or sheds any light on it so I am none the wiser sadly. Does anyone know what Gaming Services does or it's purpose?

Since no one has answered this yet, @turbomax suggested that you can google it yourself, using a bit of irony, which I appreciate.

As for myself, I have no idea what Gaming Services actually does.

nor do I, but if it is not running I know I won't get very far in any MS game. so essentially it is an essential service that handles all licensing requests between any MS game and their MS game and licensing server, DRM and what have you. unfortunately yesterday there were a couple updates (non MSFS) in the MS store resulting in a communication gaming.services breakdown. not really an Asobo issue, but Microsoft's who handle all licensing code for their games. Asobo can deliver the latest and greatest updates all night long, but if the gaming.services middle man says: no-no, there's no one to take your license request call right now then we game store customers get what we got: INSERT GAME DISK or QUIT. Steam obviously is not affected because their licensing requests seem to be taking a different route, as problem reports exclusively to MS store customers have shown time and again. but all's well that ends well.

Well one things for sure. The preview of Gaming Services is rubbish!😀

I had the 'insert disk' thing and had to go through the roll-back process with this piece of junk to get MSFS to work again.

I left the Gaming preview in Xbox insider app, then followed the Powershell 2 instructions procedure, rebooted twice and have been flying this piece of latest beta 1.27.21.0 happily ever after. 😊

That's it!  Never used the Powershell before.  It certainly never worked in a CMD window the first time!

Once I got in and the sim updated, everything seemed very good.  2+ hours in the sim, excellent performance (4k DLSS), no CTD's.  SU10 should be a solid update!

I also have good impressions of .21 (as well as .18 as there doesn't seem to be any significant changes in terms of performance). This is what I wrote on the official forums yesterday:

This (1.27.21.0) could very well be the final build, which will result in (my guess):

1. Good performance for AMD and Xbox users on DX12

2. Stutters on DX12 for nVidia users (as the memory manager is not yet in place, as it depends on the nVidia driver)

3. Missing ground tiles in DX12 for all users

4. HDR still needs a workaround

5. DX11 performance at least not worse than SU9; most likely better for most users

No stutters on DX12 for me, it's really great. Missing ground textures occasionally at one or two airports but only occasionally. I haven't tried DX11 since about three beta's ago as I haven't needed to.
