September 16, 20223 yr Howdy: The pending SU10 is going to be my first update with MSFS. I know the update will be pushed through automatically but I was wondering if there's any additional steps that need to be taken. Coming from P3D, I know it was suggested to remove/re-build your config and shaders file/folder. What about the community folder? Should I empty that and put them back in after the update? Will the update delete them? Anything else I should be aware of? Thanks! A. September 16, 20223 yr It's usually a seamless process after the initial few hours. No, it won't delete your community folder. Yes, it's generally considered a good idea to remove addons first, and add them back in slowly in case some addon is causing CTDs. That said, I have very few addons (10-20), and I generally just leave them be, understanding that if I get a CTD, I will come back and remove them to troubleshoot.

Only if trouble arises after MSFS is updated. This is how Asobo explains it as well, but somehow there's this widespread misconception the community folder has to be emptied before an update... Only for the time that you save up in the FS20 loads with an almost empty community folder it is a gain, you save more time each flight load than a pair of ticks, plus the other benefits.
September 17, 20223 yr I do use Addon Linker, but didn't want to complicate my answer. Point is that most people don't have issues with addons when they update, but if you DO have an issue with a new update, the vast majority of the time it's down to an older addon.
September 17, 20223 yr I recently joined the Beta because I go impatient waiting for the release. Is there anything specific that Beta participants need to do to avoid a reinstall? Just to point out that for those who have many addons (I have hundreds), Addon-Linker is a terrific way to organize them and -- major advantage -- store them in a separate drive from MSFS, from where they can be used selectively. I could not imagine being without it.
