Nvidia 517.40 Studio Driver Released

This doesn't make much sense as SU10 is not out yet, and hence nVidia users are still waiting for the DX12 memory manager that was disabled early in the beta. I'm confused...

Probably because the latest/current SU10 beta (which is effectively what will be released today as SU10) enables the DX12 memory optimization either blindly or if it detects the Nvidia driver >= a certain version?

But with the Studio driver released today it seems to be working for nvidia cards as well

Yes the driver has a fix for the visual corruptions. But we need SU10 with the memory manager enabled to get the DX12 performance benefits that we saw early in the beta.

So you do not think it is 1.27.21 that will be the public release?

Hopefully not, but knowing Asobo, the memory fixes have probably not been put back on. Here’s hoping thery prove me wrong.

So test everything for two months except the version you release to the public is better?

My understanding is that they have not enabled the memory manager in .21. There's not been any mentioning on this in the recent beta release notes. I'm guessing/hoping that they'll enable it in the release candidate.

There's been some discussion on the official forums that we should probably be given the opportunity to beta test the final build with the memory manager and the new nVidia driver. However this is not going to happen as SU10 is scheduled to be release in a few hours.

TBH, if there are problems with DX 12 in SU 10, I think Asobo should just hotfix it.  SU 10 needs to get out the door because we need ample time to do an open beta test of SU 11. SU 11 is going to be released on November 11th no matter what, even if the entire forum has a revolt against the MSFS team, because Microsoft has spent money advertising the release of SU 11 as the 40th Anniversary Edition.

As in the past with other Sim Updates where Microsoft spent money advertising the release date, such as SU 5 (X-Box release) and SU 7 (GOTY release), there is a 0% chance than SU 11 can get pushed back. Because the SU 11 release date is firm and set in stone, and it will be released on November 11th whether we like it or not, the MSFS team needs to start the open beta testing of SU 11 ASAP.

In fact, I hope open beta testing for SU 11 starts tomorrow.  SU 11 is looking to be a very complex update, with thermals, the new 20 KM CFD, helicopter aerodynamics, gliders, the iniBuilds A310, Milviz Beaver, DC 3, etc.  The iniBuilds A310 alone probably requires 2 months of beta testing if it is a study level plane, so I think the time is already not enough to beta test the iniBuilds A310.

I hope, but very much doubt they will let us beta test the new aircrafts.

Well, if we can't beta test the iniBuilds A310, it's not going to be a smooth release for it unless iniBuilds has done ample of testing themselves 🤣

I am a bit uncertain about the DX12 memory manager thing.  I thought the last beta update (.21) said improved memory management.
I know it wasn't a specific statement towards DX12, but Asobo do tend to be very brief about these things.
So do people think they meant normal system RAM?  They weren't looking there before were they?

My main question is, is the DX12 performance still no good in .21, or does it actually require the adjustments made to the new Nvidia driver for it to perform well?

Someone on .21 and with the new studio driver installed should be able to tell.

Then again, if Asobo do need to turn their original DX12 memory manager back on, it should be a simple task to get it in the SU10 final.
It is probably just 'commented out' in the code at present!

All of the original Asobo aircraft at release were not mass beta-tested, and they are all good.

Actually, on second thoughts, my argument fails!

Shure not, and IMO at that point SU11 has dropped MSFS i think there are coming plenty off Bugs with this release because off all that stuff that is planned to show up..

cheers 😉

Agree. I haven't tried DX12 since .18 I think it was, and it was not as smooth as DX11. I tried it just now with the latest studio driver. And to my surprise it worked like a charm. Nice and smooth, great performance. Didn't check CPU multithreading though, but I'll do that as soon as I boot up the sim again.

I tried it with my usual "torture test": 4K, ultra, terrain LOD 600, shadow size 6144, TDS GTNXi, FSHud with AIG and GA traffic, ReShade (need latest version to be compatible with DX12). Just got SWS Van's RV-14, so I had some very nice valley runs in NZ South Island.

DLSS is not great with glass cockpits though due to the ghosting on speed tapes - it's quite pronounced.

I don't know if they've changed something without mentioning in the release notes, but IMO SU10 is good to go.

Nope, doesn't look like it's working as it was in the initial beta. Guess we just have to wait. Only two more hours 🙂

It’s out now, let me know when you test it and see if they put it back…
