ORBX openLC Asia Officially Dead

Sounds like there's enough of the project completed that, if they were to find another developer, or the current developer were to resume work, they would continue the project. I can imagine this as a lot of work for one developer given that Asia is a big chunk of land.

Exactly.

If ORBX were truly interested in completing openLC, then tell me they can't find someone else to take on the project.  After 2 years, a lot of work must have already been done.

What disappoints me is that they kept stringing people along for 2 years, claiming that their intention was to finish it, keeping the hope alive.

Perhaps they'll announce that someone else will resume work on it and my statement that it's "dead" will turn out to be wrong.  I'll be happy to be wrong.

Would your comment would be critical or supportive of my post?

Honestly I don’t want to say, it has nothing to do with your post though. I’m sorry about that.  It’s very complicated.  I can’t say any more about it.

I think P3d as we know it is on life support.

Devs have either stop updating or abandoned it.

I am planning to switch to MSFS very soon.

I think it is finally ready for prime time (nearly 2 years later). With the FENIX and PMDG (which i have free since i bought the NGXu ) plus most add-on airports that i have for P3d, 10 Sim updates, its time.

Not completely going to abandon P3d just yet . Stil little or no prop planes available, the Q400 is still far off.

The situation really changed in the last six months, more than during the last two years:

  • Fenix and PMDG releasing their A320 and 737 on msfs at the beggining of 2022
  • LR releasing XP12
  • The lack of news coming from LM about a possible P3D6
  • On the contrary, more and more announcements from developpers cancelling P3D projects or abandonning P3D

All those facts resulted in a lot of P3D users giving up on P3D recently and switching to msfs or XP.

Projects which were still sunstainable in January don't make much sense in October. The ROI is hazardous and developpers don't want to take those risks anymore or assign more developping time on those projects.

That's sad but, commercially, P3D might reach it's end of life. It doesn't mean that P3D is dead. It stil works and some people will continue to use it for a long time. But the new products released for P3D will be very sparse. there are still a few projects in development and most of them will see the light. But honnestly, I don't think we'll see new projects developped from scratch now. It just don't make sense anymore.

I’ve bought four airports for P3D in the last week. Plenty of life in it for me. Plus I have ChasePlane for custom views, RC4 for proper ATC, loads of AIG Ai that make even default airports come to life.

No need to buy PMDG aircraft again. None of the aircraft I fly are available in MSFS except for the 737-800.

And I’ve left the best until last. FSL Concorde might be available around Christmas. The ultimate version for the diehard Concorde lovers.

No signs of P3D on life support for me. Still plenty of airports to buy and of course historical weather courtesy of Active Sky. I’m as happy as a pig in muck. 😁

I promise I won't start a sim vs sim debate here.  However, I don't agree that it's ready for prime time - yet.  It will be in a couple years if development continues at the current pace.  Of course this is my subjective opinion.

I was just really hoping to enjoy flying to Asia with accurate landclass and textures, at least for a couple more years until MSFS fully matures.

That's why I will still holding on with P3D and lie low. Never trust Microsoft in this regard.

I'm liking the prices for V4 and V5 as well. I have the entirety of Europe in my sights as I've pretty much been a West coast flyer. Come on ORBX 50% discount! :>)

For me, until they allow third parties access to the weather engine I cannot treat it as a serious simulator. I need accurate weather for any airport in the world for a daytime departure. I cannot use nighttime weather for a daytime departure from Sydney and Los Angeles. Once your aircraft clock no longer shows Zulu time it’s compromised.

Sorry for drifting off topic. My last word.

According to FSL, there "should" have been preview screenshots of the Concorde 8 weeks after the announcement in May, but they are nowhere to be seen. Do you believe that FSL will release the Concorde around Christmas?  I highly doubt it given the silence...  (Sorry to drift off-topic).

Personally, I'm at the point now where I'm tired of all the BS, and I just don't give #&*% anymore. Let them all do whatever the %&$ they want.

Educated guess really. If it isn’t then that would place it more than 6 months after beta testing was announced. Can’t imagine much beta testing is required given how thorough they are in development.

Just to cover my back I didn’t say which Christmas. 😉 Just joking. Otherwise you’d go mad given how long we’ve waited.

ORBX is clearly 100% devoted to MSFS now and couldn't care less about openLC, yet they continue to claim that they are indeed still interested in P3D.

How sad.

Dave

This is a false statement. ORBX is also doing work for X-Plane (12) and DCS.
