there are 4 pins

I always thought it was 150 watt per 8 pins PCI-e connector.

not necessarily. the max. current/watt can be increased by using thicker cables, that is how Seasonic, Thermaltake and Corsair have done it with their PCI-e 8-pin power to 12VHPWR adapter cables by increasing the cable diameter, going from previous AWG 18 (9.5 amps max. per wire, single core) to the thicker AWG 16 (15 amps) or even AWG 14 (24 amps). for 6-core wires the max. current is only 50%. yes, the lower the AWG number, the thicker the cable. 😊.

3 x AWG16 single core wires @ 15 amps in a PCIe-8 connector x 2 connectors = 90 amps x 12 Volts = more than enough to deliver 600 watts into a 12VHPWR connector.

quod erat demonstrandum.

if you'd prefer to calculate the required cable diameter yourself according to AWG standards (American Wire Gauge), that's pretty simple, easier than an LPV approach 😊:

Wire Diameter in millimeters mm.

Dn = 27 × 10-3 × 92(36-n)÷39

or

DAWG = 8.251 × e-(0.1159) (AWG)     …     In millimeters (mm).

Where:

  • D = The wire diameter in millimeter mm.
  • n & AWG = Number of the gauge size.

Note: For larger gauge sizes like 4/0 (0000), 3/0 (000), 2/0 (00) & 0 (1/0), you may use the numbers for AWG as -3, -2, -1 and 0 respectively.

Wire Diameter in Inches in.

Dn = 5 × 10-3 × 92(36-n)÷39    …     In inches

Where:

  • D = The wire diameter in inches in.
  • n = Number of the gauge size.

Can use Disk Cleanup to delete the DX shade cache files.  Yes, CPU bound beyond belief.  Plus, he's at 3.6Ghz and depending on turbo boost.  Why not o/c all cores to 5.0Ghz?

I’m not going to lie I use turbo boost on my i9-10850K just because I have never overclocked before and I’m terrified of messing something up. Lol I would love to just OC all my cores, but I’ve also been told that ruins your CPU…

Also I wish I could find a legitimate detailed answer on if there is any real benefit to running 1440P in MSFS or if 1080P is better. And by benefit I mean graphical benefit.

I've been told it ruins your, CPU, monitor, your life, your everything.

re. overclocking: whoever told you that doesn't know s§%&'§ from shinola.

re. graphical benefits: best to run MSFS at your monitors native resolution. I've been told it looks best.

If you OC properly it's completely safe 😉 Main thing is not to go overboard with high CPU voltages. Find a good guide (I've used derbauer's youtube videos) and follow it in a structured way.

Gotta concur with the Capitan! I have been overclocking for many years now, and have never ever damaged a CPU. You just need to conduct lots of research about your hardware capabilites, follow a guide as suggested, and be patient. You can get some very good an useable results that make a big difference on your sim rig.

AMD Ryzen 9900X3D & ASUS X870E Gaming Plus MB, w/64 Gb GSkill DDR5 RAM, PNY RTX 5090 GPU, lots of SSD's and M.2 drives, HAVN  Case, Virpil VPC Panels 2 and 3, Virpil Constellation Alpha Stick, Virpil Rotor TCS Plus w/ Hawk-60 Collective grip, TM TCA Yoke Boeing Edition, TM HOTAS A-10 and F/A-18 Sticks and TM TPR Rudder pedals. Currently on Win11

For GPU OC  I only buy factory OC'd cards and no longer am a DIY guy.  Also gave up on OC'ing the CPU and especially for memory.

The gains are minimal IMO and I can always have a baselined system that I don't need to fuss with.

I do recommend going the AMD route for the CPU which almost all gamers prefer.

I don't believe one word of what a company like Intel says about overclocking, if they can not even spell the name Metro Lake of their upcoming CPUs correctly, they keep referring to them as Meteor Lake.

Intel recommends overclocking their CPUs probably so that many get ruined and people have to buy replacements, just like what you have been told (by whoever):

Maybe because they are Meteor Lake?

Word dude. It’s like, a scam really. Lol Meteor lake, you can’t trust these guys.

That is the name of the company, the name of the lake on the page you referenced is Lake Minnetonka.
I have a strong suspicion that Minnetonka translates to Meteor Lake (from English to Cherokee).

Therefore, just because Intel named the CPU after some unknown lake in MN doesn't mean they don't know what they aren't not yet about to be doing.

Hmm. I think I saw some YouTube video of the Fenix at EGLL some time ago. Can’t remember where though…
