I think what it's doing is turning on some fog lights on the aircraft ?

All the lighting.

But atm it only works at all in external view, and there are clipping issues - i.e. gets cut off when not looking at it in "just the right way"

Do not use DataRefEditor as it's horribly outdated.

This is where the party's at nowadays: https://datareftool.com/

I am using the tool. Thanks though.

Yes and no.

100% agree DRT is the god of dataref editing, and an awesome tool. However DRE is beautiful in its simplicity and ease of use. Sometimes less is more, once you know you can search from the bottom left....

I have done my fair share of pecking Ben and teams ear on that one, I will be sad if it doesn't make it to GA, so far nothing of note 😪

Yeah... I used to use XP for night flying... Nowadays MFS is my goto sim for that. It does night lighting very acceptably including moonlight...

Looking at this one in particular again. I wonder... a lack of this effect might be a big reason why people look at the sim and complain that the lights are too dim at night. Will be interesting to see if those complaints go down when it is default on and properly tuned.

Friendly reminder: WHITELIST AVSIM IN YOUR AD-BLOCKER. Especially if you're on a modern CPU that can run a flight simulator well. These web servers aren't free...

Yeah, I gotta retract this statement. Most recent light tuning in b12 has made significant changes to city lights. Not sure what anyone could complain about now.

There are significant jumps in brightness going from cockpit to external, but at the least, when external view, the lights are plenty bright now.

OMG! I can't believe I'm finding about this now!
Is there any performance cost?
My GPU is 3080FTW3

Thanks in advance!
