Anyone else having issues with MSFS Live Weather?

Featured Replies

I'm not sure if I just missed something, or maybe I'm a little paranoid lol!

Has anyone noticed issues with live weather in MSFS? I fly GA, and often fly between 6 and 15000 feet. I've noticed that the barometer settings given by the AI ATC don't match what I'm seeing in METAR from flightaware. Is this a known issue from the last update?

For the most part Live Weather has been good - I've had no issues with BP, none at all.  BP has been either right on or within a point or two.

Winds have occasionally (above ground level) been more severe than usual which has made for some interesting flights.  However, when I check RW sources for winds aloft I must say that they have been more extreme on average, so they may be a proper reflection.

ATIS continues to be totally disconnected from reality, but metars and live weather have been surprisingly in sync for me.

I think I've been having connection issues all day.  I've haven't been able to fly.

I continue to be totally dismayed at weather experiences in MSFS.  A glance at my message footer may tell why. After SU10 I have been experiencing totally unrealistic buffetting and turbulance from MSFS live weather, and particularily at low altitudes when on short final. Those experiences when nothing of the kind is being reported by metars, live weather sites, or PIREPS.  So since SU10 I have mostly gone back to REX WF.  But Sunday, flying at FL360 from Baltimore to St Louis, I was with REX WF experiencing 150+ knot headwinds when ADDS and other sites were reporting 55-70 knots.  So I went back mid-flight to MSFS Live Weather, which at least for Sunday was more realistic with winds aloft.

I continue to be highly embarassed to listen to MSFS ATIS/AWOS report dew points that are higher than the associated surface temps, and are always dew points of either 10°C or 13°C.  Always!  And all of this after more than two years following MSFS release.

Then I read the developmental updates and when listing SDK plans for opening weather up to 3rd party developers it is a maddening "Not Planned".

Active Sky had it mostly dialed in for FSX before, and certainly with Active Sky 2016.  When was that?  2016?  That was now over 6 years ago.  Asobo: totally unforgiveable!  Totally unforgivable!

I absolutely agree that the approach "turbulence.buffeting" is ridiculous.  The weather has been fairly accurate, but the turbulent nature of many approaches belies the actual conditions.  In the majority of my 10 years of RW flying, even on gusty days, I didn't have to fight for control like this.  I think there were two instances that I had some buffeting on approach that was similar - 2 times in a decade!

And as for ATIS, I'll say it again - it doesn't work, period.  The represented weather can be spot-on at times, but ATIS is always wrong (9 times out of 10 ATIS will report heavy rain on a clear day, for instance).  So, look at the metar, check out the windsocks - but don't listen to ATIS.  It's amazing to me how the weather modeling can be fairly close to RW conditions, but the sim's ATIS can't report it?????

Finally, the main issue for me is the inappropriate cross-wind response with anything above 2-3 knots and the inability of the wheels and pavement to interact properly.  There are many wonderful things about this simulator, but when you can't simulate proper takeoffs and landings it's not even beginning to be a flight simulator,  So, ASOBO, fix the crosswind behavior, ground effect, inappropriate wind buffeting, ATIS and ATC.  Do this before you add another aircraft, airport or custom scenery area.  Then, you'll really have something.

I'm having issues with MSFS live weather since August 2020.

Ive had good Wx experiences flying the West US corridor.  Accurate high altitude winds and no weird turbulence on landings.

This. I've noticed it happens more frequently when you make consecutive flights without restarting.

Not a problem with Live Weather per se, but I cannot maintain stable FPS unless I turn off Live Weather and Real Time. If I have either on, then FPS will progressively drop, particularly on long-haul flights. I didn't have this issue with SU10.

I was checking my options last night and noticed that my data settings had switched the online functionality to OFF. I'm not sure how that happened (I certainly didn't make any changes to this), but I imagine that turning it back on will solve my issues.... I hope.

A good lesson in checking all my settings after an update.

When you get disconnected from the server(s), MSFS changes the settings to offline but does not set itself again online after the connection re-established itself. Pretty annoying.

I'm thinking that the actual MSFS Wx  provided is accurate but there is a disconnect with the servers which I don't think will ever provide a seamless solution.
