Hi, if I remember correctly I read that you have i9 13900 plus 4090, and even with the best hardware there is at the moment, do you still have limitations in some airports? How many fps do you run on those airports addon more traffic and with plane pmdg ?Perhaps you know with and without dls? You mean in 4k and ultra graphics...

@RJC68 @Stefano88 FG does help, but when the main thread is hammered, overall fps suffers, and motion is not as fluid. With a TLOD of 150 I can usually maintain fps above 30.

7950X3D | RTX 4090 | 64GB DDR5

Generally 200 or 300 if I’m in the mood. I’m mainly GPU limited.

Any advice on how I could lower my GPU usage but keep the TLOD up and with minimal reduction in visual quality would be appreciated. (I obviously realise there is no such thing as a free lunch). I really hate seeing the ring of trees around the aircraft and blurred textures so need to keep the TLOD up.

It was so awesome when the tree mod that extended them to the horizon worked, also was great at covering up the nasty blurred textures beyond the detailed ones. 


5800x3D and and 3070 8GB for info. I guess just need a new GPU... but still pricey, and would need a new case due to size and those two things are putting me off!

my advise is go down to 150. and set cars and boats to 25 mentioned earlier in this thread, give it a chance, u will definitely have a better siikmming experience.

Hello, first of all thanks for the answer.Wow so with FG active ok you can stay above 30fps, but honestly I still thought a little better.But this under what game conditions?I think the heaviest possible, so airport like London or Paris of those for a fee, airliner like pmdg or Fenix, I imagine quite dense live traffic plus live weather, all in 4k I think and in ultra plus tlod at least at 150. Can you confirm that when you tell me you have at least 30fps with FG active you were in these conditions that did I write?

PMDG is very good fps-wise. The Fenix and the A310 are much harder on the main thread. Worst case scenario for me is Fenix A320 short final into iniBuild’s KLAX with FSLTL AI traffic and GAIST. I always fly in live weather but that’s not really a limiting factor with the 4090. It has enough raw processing power to render dense cloud layers. 

I always use 4K, most settings ultra. Some higher than ultra (set in usercfg.opt). In terms of the graphics settings the by far biggest limiting factor is TLOD. So I just keep that at a constant 150, even though I could easily manage 400 (or higher) when flying over rural or remote areas. 

I have a few videos with different airliners flying into major hubs - link in signature.

Wasn’t TLOD a setting we only got after the sim had been out for a while?  I seem to recall it came with a warning about degraded performance if set too high.  
 

If so, does anyone know what the default setting was before we got the slider?

I’m really surprised of folks having issues with a 13900k and 4090. I have both and my system runs flawlessly with everything on ultra and LOD at 250. Flying into a busy airport like ORD (FSDT), while using a PMDG aircraft, and flying on VATSIM and I’m still getting 90+ fps on final and 70+fps on the ground. No stutters! Maybe the occasional one but it’s very rare. Running frame generation on with TAA.

The TLOD slider was always there. It maxed out at 200 at launch. Later Asobo extended the slider to 400.

They also added a tool in the dev mode where you can turn the trees red to visualise the effect of your changes on the visual range in TLOD.

Note the setting for Trees also has an effect on the distance the trees will be drawn as well as the density. 

There is a window in the dev mode tree debugger that will give you the km range trees will be drawn with the tree setting and TLOD combo you are using.

Hi, thank you for your explanation. But in this case tell me, so pmdg, paid klax, ai traffic, all ultra ( what is cfg file optimization?? I imagine with all these settings you will have graphics that are almost like reality! ) live weather, tlod 150, how many fps do you have in final about and how many once on the ground? In TAA or dlss? Just to have an idea. Yes, thanks for telling me about your videos, now I can see them!! Thank you very much!

Hello, I am very pleased to hear these numbers, I will soon have a pc with i9 13900 and 4090. The thing I don't understand is why sometimes with very similar pc there are big differences in fps!MSFS graphics settings?Operating system ?Motherboard?Ram?Ssd?I'd be curious to know from cpt_piett how many fps it has with its settings being similar to yours flying in TAA. Thank you too for your comments!

TLOD again discussed. Please vote in the FFTF thread that i created so we might also get an FFTF for MSFS that dynamically reduces TLOD as closer to 0 feet AGL and vice versa.

At iniBuilds EGLL with FSLTL traffic I get 50-70fps on short final and on the ground in PMDG/Fenix. TAA/DLSS = not a big difference. 

Usercfg.opt = I have some custom settings e.g. shadow maps higher than ultra.
