Would be interested to see how they recover from the underwhelming 7900xt/xtx release as well as seeing the product stack for the x3d cpu parts. I need more than an 8 core x3d part to jump. Hence why i didn't do the 5800x3d

So hoping Dr. Su and Mr. Papermaster have figured out how to make this x3d thing all work with a 2CCD setup.

I would like the 7000x3D to perform at least as good as the i9-13900KS. using less power.

If the past is any guide at all, the 7000x3D's should soundly beat the 13900KS in MSFS.   In other applications, probably not.

Then again the 13th-gen cpu's feature a larger cache, although not as large as the 3D cpu's, so maybe the performance delta won't be as great as it was with the 5800X3D.

The heat/power thing will be really interesting to see.  I note the AMD 7-series cpu's have a 2mm thicker IHS, and this is one of the causes behind more heat.

Really interested to see how the new AMD CPUs stack up against the i9 13900k so I can get on with building a new system.

That's what I'm waiting on too.

I can't believe it's been 5 years since I built my current sys.  How time flies when you're flying.  Heh.

I wonder which 7000x3D cpu will be the sweet spot for MSFS?  6-core, 8-core, 12-core, 16-core have been rumored core counts.  And are 12 and 16 cores not really beneficial for us?  Just adding heat, but not doing much for MSFS performance?  Or will the rumored 7950X3D (16 cores?) really be the one to have?

Probably the 7950x3D will be best of all on MSFS. Highest clock + more cache. But the 7900x3D is really close behind. Depending on the difference of the prices, I would go with the 7900x3D.

So the 7950x3D and 7900x3D will feature two chiplets, one with vcache and the other without.  Whereas the 7800x3D has one vcached chiplet.

My concern with the 7950x3D and 7900x3D is this:  can Windows task scheduler properly handle one chiplet with the 3D cache and the other chiplet without it?  If not, then the 7800x3D would be the one to get.

I bet we'll know the answers to these questions in a few days.

One huge glaring issue here that is highly misleading with these '30%' performance increase claims is that they're referring to gaming at 1080p.

In 4K, that'll probably be more like a 5% gain or maybe even zero when compared with the 13900k. I understand 1080p is used as a measurement of true 'bottleneck free' raw CPU performance in games, but it is kind of silly too, let alone totally misleading for those of us using 4K monitors.

Considering the 13900k already has a decent amount of L2 and L3 cache, and is only 5% on average faster than the 13700k with much less L2 and L3 cache, it begs the question of how much uplift in 4K can additional V cache really be expected to offer at similar or lesser clock speeds? I have no doubt at least one or more of their 3D chips will beat the 13900k but probably it won't be by very much in 4K (my guess is by no more than 5% in MSFS in 4K) and will be significantly more expensive.

I don't find it misleading at all. you need an adequate GPU, otherwise it's pointless.

25-30% faster than 5800x3D, which already beats the i9-13900K @ 4K in some games. 7950x3D will definitely beat the 13900K again @ 4K.

assuming the 7800x3D is 25% faster than the 5800x3D, it could run MSFS ca. 10-12 fps faster than the 13900K @4K, at significantly lower power/heat.

"In 4K, that'll probably be more like a 5% gain or maybe even zero when compared with the 13900k."

definitely not according to the above diagrams. that's why Intel has to torture their old 10nm architecture and hand-select the few that can survive 6 GHz.

The CPU is configured at a single-core boost clock of 6.0 GHz (1-2) cores. The CPU will be featuring 68 MB of combined cache and a 125W PL1 rating that goes beyond 253W. The CPU can also consume up to 350W of power when using the "Extreme Performance Mode. 🥵 (overheated face icon)

"and will be significantly more expensive."

like the Intel Core i9-13900KS:

"The pricing should be close to the $699-$749 US figure."

I saw that today, it wasn’t clear to me. Unless the scheduling is good, it might be problem. Not for the 5800x3d, but for the other two.
