MSFS reset all settings by itself

Featured Replies

Just started up MSFS and that really annoying intro music was playing (strange as I'd turned all the music off in settings!). Then it starts saying it's detected game controllers (strange as I've not added any new ones since using it last night!). Then it asks me to set accessibility options, asks me to calibrate game controllers etc and I realise it's reset everything, I mean EVERYTHING (graphics settings, sound settings, absolutely everything!!!) without me asking it to.

I'm already struggling with this sim, but how does this happen?! I've spent hours and days trying to get things set up properly.

AMD Ryzen™ 9 9900X3D, AM5, Zen 5, 12 Core, 24 Threads, 4.4GHz, 5.5GHz Turbo
64GB (2x32GB) DDR5 6000MHz Corsair Vengeance
32GB GeForce® RTX 5090 Graphics Card

Had the exact same thing happening to me the day before yesterday. The only change I had done was updating to the latest version of Leonardo's Maddog.

Straight out of the blue, all my settings gone, no question asked. Also forced a re-install of all the Asobo liveries, road trips and whatnots I had been diligently deleting over the past 2 years.

MSFS is a gorgeous sim, and quite a bit of a bully too 😖

Cheers,

I've had it happen once since release, it is definitely majorly annoying when it happens.

On the plus side it didn't delete all my key bindings. They were all there, just need to swap over from default.

Thinking about it, that is less regularly than I used to have to delete all my p3d cfg files. Which was equally annoying..

So I reset most of my settings, shut MSFS down (properly), went to restart it and AGAIN all of my settings have been reset. I have to set accessibility, graphics, controls, sounds etc everytime I start the sim.

I'm now on the fourth attempt at starting MSFS and everytime it resets my settings.

Please help!

You on Steam or MS Store version?

Settings are stored on the cloud.  Sometimes I get prompted to use the cloud  or newer settings from the last session.  I always take the newer ones.

I've also had this at least twice.  Hopefully, once you get everything set up you won't have to go through it again.

Also got it this week:  axis settings conflicting with FSUIPC's, assistance options reset, default aircraft in hangar changed, etc.  Isn't there a way to back up those settings locally and reapply them in one shot when needed?

This just happened to me on Steam version. It suuuuuucks. I don't even remember all the particular settings. The option to save general settings, not just keyboard, mouse and joystick commands would be great.

I've had this happen to me now for no apparent reason so many times that I have learned all of my graphics and accessibility settings off by heart and can reset them all in a couple of minutes.

Sometimes it also resets controllers to default and you simply need to reselect your own profiles.

For a mature program which is coming to the end of its shelf life and being replaced by a new version this year, it's amazing to see the number of software bugs that still exist.

Maybe it’s a not so subtle way of getting users to go with 2024 when it’s available. If that’s the case, gives a platform for deciding not to support 2020 anymore, due to lack of or extremely low number of users. I don’t trust anyone (meaning businesses, especially high tech) anymore.

Hope I’m wrong!

"Support" will most likely only mean 1) fixing critical errors that appear through windows updates or something like that and 2) leaving the servers turned on. I don't expect them to do any other improvements for MSFS 2020 when 2024 is released.

For transparency: I'm a community mentor at the BATC discord. However, I do not get paid for it in any way.
