Another update:  I'm still getting the crashes, unfortunately.  I was just on final to Charlotte, after about an hour flight, and the program just closes.  My CPU wasn't throttling (it was running around 4.3 Ghz), and thermals were fine (60s and 70s).  I guess there must be something else going on.  It's Microsoft, so not really surprised.  I am using some custom liveries for the Hjet, but other than that, pretty much running things stock.  Ugh. 😡

I may have missed this because I really haven't read the entire thread carefully, but have you run Windows Memory Diagnostics? I was having some random issues on my system a couple of weeks ago both in and out of MSFS. My system registry got trashed and I had to do a fresh install of Windows (it was needed anyway). I ran into problems during the install, so I ran WMD. It identified 16 bad pages of memory. I reinstalled my old 16Gb of RAM and completed the installation. RMA'd the 32Gb with the bad pages. I gotta give G.Skill props here. They were great. They received my RAM on 1/13. On 1/23, I hadn't heard anything, so I emailed them. On the 24th, they replied telling me that it was shipped to me on 1/16. Sure enough, the replacement memory was sitting in my mailbox. I will never buy a different brand of memory.

My point with all of that was that I did not suspect that I had memory issues. I was shocked when I found it. I can usually tell when a system has bad memory, but the logs for my crashes gave perfectly reasonable indications of other issues that distracted me.

Press Windows key, type "windows memory" and go do something else for 45 minutes. Just in case.

Just a thought...I fly simple aircraft at low speeds using high settings on a system a little lower spec than the OP and seldom have crashes, in fact hardly ever.

I notice that the vast majority of users who complain of persistent CTDs are using complex high performance aircraft mostly Hi Fidelity airliners or biz jets

(Apologies if "Hi Fidelity" is not the currently acceptable term to use)

Question to folks with the crashes on final - which mode do you use, DX11 or DX12? If it’s DX12, especially with 4K, I’m not surprised if you are getting CTD.

That makes perfect sense. When you ask MSFS to do everything 4 times faster (like drawing the scenery below passing by at 400kts instead of 100kts) it generates much more work for the entire system. This causes the heat output of all of the components in the system to increase, as well as making the power supply work harder and generate even more heat. When temps go up, marginal components begin to show the problems that they don't have under lighter loads.

The real bottom line is that if the system itself is 100% hardware healthy, and the applications being run do not have coding issues, then you should be able to run it at 100% load all the time for years on end with no problems. I can promise you that most users experiencing more than the once every 4-6 month CTD have hardware "problems" (either actual defective HW, an installation related issue, or something configured incorrectly) that they have not found yet.

If the software was the problem, 100% of us would experience the same thing.

^This^

There is something wrong with the config when this happens and the truth is that the only person responsible for that is the user.

People don't like to hear it but that is the truth.

Asobo has 4 default commercial jets included, hence MSFS is designed to do everything 4 times faster without even 3rd party products.

At least it's not just me.  My PC has good specs, and I'm not even running MSFS at insane settings or anything.  It's very frustrating, that's for sure.

Yes, Agree. I was wondering if it was only me and what I had messed up until the reinstall. My PC is I9-9900l, 20 gig 7900XT etc. I hope it gets fixed in the next update. Right now there is no point even stating it up.

Also, I'm using DX 11.

DX12 and 4K and VR exclusively, I’m surprised I am NOT getting CTD.

very nice.

How much VRAM and PSU power? I bet the former is greater than 12GB

64 GB ram, 24 GB Vram, 1.000 watt PSU, 4K resolution and even more for VR, no overclocking, all this for a reason. the only time MSFS crashes sometimes is when I switch from VR back to 2D.

24gb vram pretty much explains everything

I do love MSFS, but it's getting really frustrating.  I'll almost get through an entire flight, and when I'm maybe 10 mins from my destination, program crashes and closes.  No error message or anything.  What a pain in the butt.

I was having the same issue.  I wiped almost everything in my community folder, just using vanilla MSFS now except for a few little things.  You don't get a lot of fancy aircraft to choose from, but at least you can finish your flights.

Did a couple of flights now, and still no crashes, so I might be good 😁

off topic, but for those who fly the HondaJet, what speed do you typically set when climbing?  I typically start my initial climb at around 15 deg of nose up, which puts me around the 180s.  Just wondering what was optimal.

Have you tried DDU the GPU drivers? Display Driver Uninstaller

There are basic things like:

Windows OS:

  • Disable USB Sleep ---- Power plan settings
  • Ensure all Visual C++ is up to date (techpowerup website)
  • Disk Cleanup, run as Admin, tick all boxes
  • Make sure all Windows updates are complete
  • Turn off Hardware-accelerated gpu scheduling
  • Install US Language Pack
  • Uninstall/Disable RealTek HD Audio Driver

  • Run CMD as admin, run these steps:

sfc /scannow

DISM /Online /Cleanup Image /CheckHealth

DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth

DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

  • Restart your PC
  • Repeats the steps again (I like to double check)

any form of windows de-bloat software that has been used could be an issue, as could anti-virus.

i use O&O ShutUp10 and luckily mine is ok (recommended settings)

hope this helps some people
