So.. this is all good stuff 😉

Back to basics:

-Task Manager / processes / sorted by %CPU

Do you see anything happening, however brief, every 60 secs?

Turned Steam Overlay back on.

Tested.

1st incident at exactly 2:00

Then every 60 seconds and with Task Manager I saw the sim pause but not one thing changed as I was watching Task Manager.

Next is to test with Steam Overlay turned off.

Turned Steam Overlay off and tested.

Same result.

1st at 2:00

2nd at 60 seconds.

3rd at 60 seconds.

This is becoming extremely frustrating.  Why?  Because it takes a while to load the sim, and I have to watch it taxi while my finger hovers over the stopwatch.

But what makes it even more frustrating is despite it being very reproducible I can’t see anything causing it.  This is so counterintuitive to all my years of troubleshooting avionics systems.  We had intermittent problems that I could pin down but this, this is intractable!

Ok, so, after all I’ve done so far here are the next steps:

1. Spend some quality time learning ProcMon.

2. If it doesn’t catch it then a 100% complete uninstall of everything on the entire PC, install a fresh copy of Windows 10 because my PC can’t run Win 11 and install Steam and the sim and test without any add-ons.

3. If it happens again then I give up.  The PC will be donated to Goodwill and I’ll be finished with flight sim.

was thinking about buying a new PC from Jetline but since July they refuse to answer my calls or emails for assistance, they won’t even answer when I tell them I want to buy a brand new PC.  I only contacted them maybe four times since July so I don’t know what their problem is.  I used to have a huge amount of respect for them.

I don’t know when I’ll be running ProcMon and when I have learned it and run it I’ll post here.

Thanks everyone for your help, your knowledge astonishes me and I’ve very grateful for all your suggestions.

@Jack_Sawyer, soon after getting my current PC back in 2018 I had a problem with USB devices disconnecting and reconnecting.

I tried everything I knew but couldn’t fix it. Looking through a free community magazine I saw an advert from a Microsoft Certified Engineer who could fix computer problems.

I hired his services. He discovered the powered USB hub that worked fine with W7 was incompatible with W10. He recommended one and after swapping mine out it’s worked perfectly ever since.

Search your area for a Microsoft Certified Engineer. It may cost you around 100 USD but I’m sure he’ll find and fix the problem.

Thanks Ray.  Good idea.  I might go that route only after a full install.

I do have a powered USB hub but while troubleshooting this I had it disconnected, same issue.

I'm gonna take a break today as my frustration level is off-scale high.

Many thanks and cheers.

If a reinstall of windows fixes it will have solved the problem but you’ll never know what caused it. If it ever recurs you’ll be back to square one.

He should be able to identify the issue and if it does happen again you’ll be able to fix it yourself because I suspect it’s not something that complicated.

I agree Ray.  You make a very valid point.  Trouble is I don't even know where to look for a certified technician.  I'm trying to get support from Jetline but they went from extremely helpful to silent and I have no idea why.

Search Google for “Microsoft Certified Engineer in my area”.

Mine only lived a few miles away. In the States you should have one close to you.

I don’t think Jetline will be able to fix it. Unless you need to claim under the warranty they’re not obliged to help.

This is really sounding like an USB issue.  I guess that the Steam overlay thing was a wild goose chase.

Interesting.  Last July I disabled the Steam overlay and it went away and since I had spent almost the same amount of time troubleshooting I decided to re-enable the Steam overlay and it came back.  Disabled it, and it went away.  It was very reproducible.

As for USB, last time and this week I not only disabled power management on every USB device individually in the Device Manager but I also physically removed all USB devices from the PC itself and it still does it.

I'll try this after I give ProcMon a chance to see if I can catch it I the act 😀

Yeah, Jetline, I was just hoping I could pay for service but I guess that's not gonna happen.

If you decided to get a new PC, do yourself a favor and get a CLX. Lifetime free support, and their tech support is top notch. I installed an M2 drive a couple of months ago, couldn't get it going and the tech support remoted into my out of warranty PC, spent about 20 minutes and fixed it. You can't beat a company like that.   https://www.clxgaming.com/gaming-pc

Did you also disable it under HID devices in the device manager? You have to do usb devices AND HID devices too. Do them both separately.

Regardless - it could still be a USB issue.  These are common with MSFS and other games I guess.

Why would a USB issue come up exactly every 60 seconds?
