Is anyone who are experiencing that issue using Samsung 980 or 990 m.2 NVME drives?

The 990 is having a serious problem where it degrades much faster than usual.
The 980 also has a problem with this, but not as severe. And if you update it with Samsung Magician the problem goes away.

Since we're still clutching at straws I thought I would just throw it out there.
(No I haven't read all 24 pages before posting this).

I have 960s'  No issues here.

Yes those are fine. It's mainly the 990 and partly 980.

Thanks Republic.  How do I determine which drives I have?  Thanks.  I’m trying to rule anything out and all are good suggestions so far.

Go to "This PC" where you can see all your drives.
Then right-click your drive, click Properties.
Then go to the Hardware tab at the top.

I was curious since I'm looking at every single component on this PC.  Here's my drives and what's on them.

C - Samsung SSD 860 EVO M.2 1TB

D - Samsung SSD 850 EVO 500 GB Just backup files.

E - WDC WDS100T2B0A 1TB Empty

F - Samsung SSD 860 EVO 2TB MSFS, Steam, & Orbx libraries

I - Seagate Portable SCSI 2TB - Some Steam files

K - WD Easystore 25FB USB 8 TB - Empty

L - WD My Passport 0820 USB Device 1 TB - Just backup files, same as drive D

Have you ruled out chipset issues?  There could be a Win update you did that isn't playing nice with the chipset driver you're currently running.   That's a bit of a shot in the dark but I can't recall seeing that in this thread.  I had this exact thing happen to me a long time ago.

Also, I have an NZXT S340 Elite also.  I can't remember ever finding any NZXT process in my list of running processes, but this thread will make me have a 2nd look.  I tend to clean that type of stuff off my rig as a normal course of business, but I may have missed something.

Hi Mace, I wish I even knew what a chipset was, sad to say.  😞

Aren't you running an intel z370 chipset, with an 8700K?   I could swear you said so earlier in this thread.

Come to think of it Mace, I remember an optional Windows update right before this and it did update stuff like that.  All kinds of drivers. How could I roll it back?

Have you tried unplugging the portable drives? They could cause issues if they're going to sleep while in MSFS.

Yes sir, three times now.  No change.  Thanks for helping though.

I'm wondering if this problem is specific to MSFS or it affects the whole system.  When MSFS pauses, is the whole computer running slow?

If you alt-tab to a different program at that time (e.g. a web browser, map software or word processor), is that also hanging or running sluggishly?
