60 second pause is back, begging for help.

Jack,

Do you connect to the network via WiFi, or with a wired connection? A few years ago I had an issue where (P3D at that time) would stutter/pause every 60 seconds exactly. It turned out that the WiFi adapter in my computer would do a re-scan for nearby networks every 60 seconds, and that was the cause.

I was using a wired connection, but the WiFi was active to connect to other devices in my home. I turned the WiFi adapter off in the Network settings in Windows Control Panel and it fixed the issue.

Hi JR, thank you.  I do have both WiFi for sending Notepad texts to the printer and it's also connected to the Ethernet.  I have AT&T's fastest broadband in this new home which is a smart home wired with fiber throughout.

Last July when this first appeared I unplugged both and it still behaved the same way sad to say.

I plan doing exactly as you describe Pete before a total reformat.  I first have to work my way through the stack of printouts to try.  I'm keeping meticulous notes as I do this for future use or to help someone else later.

Gotta go, the wife and I have real world stuff to attend to.

You would need to turn the WiFi adapter completely off in the control panel to eliminate it as a potential cause. It may not be the problem of course, but in my case it did indeed cause a stutter every 60 seconds exactly.

The easiest way would be to find the WiFi adapter in the Control Panel Device Manager, right click it and select “Disable this device”. You can re-enable it later if does not make a difference.

I physically disconnected it from the PC, would that be enough?  I mean it had no antenna but I wonder if it could still receive signal through the coax connector on the PC?  Dunno.  That is now also on my list of things to do.

Your problem sounds very similar to one I had a few years ago - it was a bad wifi card. Removing it eliminated the stutters completely.

I don't have time to read the whole thread (working) but have the startup settings been checked?

Thanks gb09f.  This is another terrific thing to add to my list of things to do.  I'm receiving some wonderful tips on what to try and I'll be doing them all.  I appreciate your input very much.

Thank you too booga, it would be epic if it was this.  I'm not sure if I can physically remove it though, it might be built into the motherboard.  Would just disconnecting the antenna wire be enough?

If you just remove the antenna, the card will still try to reach out to find other networks even with no antenna. Temporarily disabling it in the Windows Control Panel is the easiest solution rather than trying to physically remove it. On many PCs the WiFi is built into the motherboard in any case.

I'm running the game on Steam too. I'm on a 14 year old i7-920 PC, GT1060 6GB, 12GB RAM, Win10 Pro. MSFS on this old crate has given me no problems at all. I'm saying this just to give you hope!

Some things to try
1. Ensure RAM sticks, gfx card are sitting nice and firm, open up the case
2. Ensure Windows is updated, ensure gfx card drivers updated
3. If your PC is overclocked then drop the OC down just a little and test
4. Move (or reinstall) MSFS to the root of the drive. Avoid Program Files. Example:
   C:\Steam\steamapps\common\MSFS
5. Add an exclusion to your security software. Exclude the MSFS folder from scans.

I have been reading this thread, and if this problem is occuring every 60 seconds, it is obvious that some program is trying to do something at that exact interval. It's not a bug in MSFS.

Personalize on desktop right click. Personalize Background drop down. Can be set to change every 60 seconds. That's one thing that Windows can do every 60 seconds.

Hi Throttle, I checked the RAM, the 3080, Windows is always up to date, I check it daily, I do not overclock it, I have no AV on this PC, never have.  Thanks, I appreciate it.

Thanks Fielder, I've never used personalize desktop but I checked anyway and it's off.
