Is your MSFS a Steam or MSStore version?

I hope you get it sorted mate.

The amount if time you've invested in to fixing this, if it were me I would be inclined to just place a new copy of windows on and start from scratch...

I’d rather sell the PC and take up knitting.  That’s too much work for me, honestly it ain’t worth it.

Thanks, it’s Steam.

before  going  down  that path  suppose  you  tried  uninstalling  and  deleting  every folder  relating  to  msfs  and  doing  a  re  install or  you  could  try  this   i  had  done  this  with  no issues   awhile  ago

Only as a last resort or maybe not at all.  I honestly think this sim is as fragile as an egg shell.

I've just gone back to FSX Steam for a while. Just a few days ago I was smirking at reports of other peoples' problems in MSFS, but that grin has since been wiped off my face. I have no idea what went wrong, a complete mess. I was really enjoying the scenery in MSFS and am willing to put up with a fair amount of abuse to be able to see that. What's weird is when you've got everything running perfectly (I've only had MSFS since about New Year's), you start to lean back and really enjoy the sim, thinking you've achieved some sort of consistency that looks really good, and then suddenly it seems like you're almost worse off than when you first installed it. But for me flying mostly long hauls, FSX and PMDG 747-400 really isn't that bad. Maybe just 3 days ago I was considering uninstalling FSX to free up space, but for now I just want to fly and enjoy and not deal with any hassles. I'm definitely still hanging on to MSFS, also got the 737-700 for it, but I'll probably sit out an update or two and check back into it later. The amount of time one spends troubleshooting and then waiting for things to load is absolutely stunning, in a negative way.

Good plan.  It seems Microsoft can always be counted on to improve and ruin at the same time.

I'll take a shot at it.

1) Goto windows settings - Update Security - Search and Indexing and run the troubleshooter. If not start running the others from the top. See if anyone has a problem.

if not

2)  right click computer management - Services and Applications - Services and look for Windows Search - Properties and disable it.

Reboot see if it helps.

I know that "internal" search and index runs every 60 seconds unless disabled.

Thanks, I did all of this last summer and double checked that all is turned off.  As it stands now I have absolutely no Defender, AV, security of any kind, so search or indexing, and almost all services rendered inoperable.  However I will triple check the internal search.

But bear in mind I went through all this last summer and it instantly stopped when I forced Steam’s hand to not allow steamoverlay.exe to run using Process Lasso.

Yes, Windows Search shows Disabled.

I tried this.  I cannot get live weather this way and anyway, I still have the 60 pauses.  Thanks for helping though, I appreciate it.

I know, just another one here and sorry if that was mentioned/done before but skimming through your painful posts I read something about "network". so, did you ever try MSFS without network connection at all, I mean not just cutting steam off or online data in MSFS setting but the whole PC? Might be somthing with the network driver? Also, did you update all HW/mainboard drivers? wouldnt expect any hickups from one day to the other like you described, especially not for an older rig like yours (wasn't it from 2016?) but who knows... of course you won't see live weather when your whole PC is disconnected but at least you may see whether the pauses still happen. sorry, just another shot in the dark

Thanks DAD, I did discover the reason. It was because I was online in the General settings.  So as I type this I have only 10 files left to install then I ‘ll be back at a point where I can start testing for the pauses again.

try setting to offline in MSFS once done with the reinstall (?) but if that does not help then as I suggested also try to cut off your network connection alltogether to your PC just to rule that part out, pull the cable or deactivate wifi or whatever you use

Yes, I did that last summer and even yesterday.  No change.  I physically disconnected both WiFi and the Ethernet cable.

The sim is the most stable Flight sim I have ever had. No problems in over 2,000 hours... There is something wrong with your system, not the program.

Thanks.  That was most helpful.

Just trying to get you to not blame MSFS2020, it isn't the problem.
